My girlie has now finally come into season and she is dripping blood..

Are the canine nappies worth spending out on? Can I adapt something myself?
Being that I personally have never had a bitch so still learning on this front and it would be nice to protect the floors and furnishings in the house from the blood..

I found them useful with my bitches before had them spayed.  don't bother buying the special little towels for them- cheap sanitary towels cut down work just as well.
does tend to take the dog a little while to get used to idea but handy for when in areas of the house where spillage is more of an issue.  big washable blankets scattered about help too though for protecting less cleanable items.  never leave them on unattended - far too much danger of them hurting themselves.
ps be prepared for some very funny looks off neighbours if you dry them on washing line!

Yes, I used the 'silly knickers' as I call them for my girl, luckily she is a tricolour and the pants were black so it doesn't look too daft. Not sure what I'm going to do now I have 2 blenheims too - probably just give up and drape all furniture in towels or covers (which I do usually anyway to save it from hair) and keep washing the towels! Anyway, I found the knickers quite handy, but don't leave them on for too long at a time or it promotes infection if that area doesn't get any fresh air.

My friend buys pampers and makes a tail gap.  Stops the boys pulling them off as well :) 

Do you just put human sanitary towels in human knickers? If so I had better find some kiddie knickers as mine are gonna be too big for my girl.

As for unattended, she is not left unattended with my male.. Working that they are in different rooms or one is in a crate if in the same room, in which I'm also in too, I wouldn't trust my male, even though he's had the suprelorin implant, he is showing interest in her...

Canine nappies and bitch pants are two different things -the first are for incontinent dogs/bitches. Bitch pants don't require more than a cheap pantyliner inside. I have used them, but would say the bitch shouldn't be in them all the time -not enough air circulating. But they're very useful at times like when you're staying in a hotel with pale carpets with a bitch in season. ;)

:-)  :-)   I'm laughing, because the first time I ever tried them was because I had my first male Chihuahua, and didn't want him mating bitches too young.  I caught the bitch enticing him up the garden, and encouraging him to take her knickers off.

Little trollop.  She doesn't get it off me.  :-)

As the Mikki pants are so cheap, and lasts for years (in fact lasts for many bitches -I've only ever bought 2 pairs in over 20 years) it works out much cheaper than anything else. Cheapest pantyliners at about 20 p a box works fine.

Thanks for that tip, Marianne. I have known a few people try other methods, but I would have tried Mikki first as I personally rate their products.

I have filed that away in the memory bank for advice to others, if required.

I just mop floors (tile and laminate) wash mats and don't allow on furniture (you could cover if allowed up).

I would always worry about pants encouraging infection and also what a faff needing to remove every time they went outside (my back door stays open most of the time anyway, unless really bad out).

Not something I have ever used. I just up the cleaning a bit, and with leather furniture if they do get up its easy to wipe down, but we do discourage them while in season. I put blankets over the lounge floor but all other floors are tiled or wood so easy to keep clean. With 3 girls I find one or other will clean up behind the others anyway and it's never been a problem. Possibly with heavy coats and thick trousers the blood stays on the coat and the girls are constantly tidying themselves up so it is rare I am left with any mess. I have more of a problem waiting for them to come in and not missing the first day ! out with the tissues then  :-)

Yes, Mikki pants are what I use with Ellie.

My girls clean up after themselves quite religiously when in season so I don't tend to get a lot of mess about the house.  I did use the pants once when my oldest had just started crawling.  I just used kids pants with a towel in.
Only thing that would worry me about the nappies would be the absorbant material inside.  My girl had a tendency to try to rip them off so I would be worried that she would eat the nappy.  Can't be good.

I used a pair of men's boxer shorts which worked, tail poking out the button up fly. That was until she went out still wearing them & came back having wet her knickers, they were dragging round her ankles!

That's what was happening there, he was pulling them off with his teeth.  it was funny.
