Topic Other Boards / Foo / Ladies, do you ever buy mens sizes for yourself?
- By dogs a babe Date 13.01.12 10:24 UTC
Before I lost weight I could wear some of my husbands coats, and often did, as it wasn't always easy to get good outdoor clothing in womens plus sizes.  He has lost weight too and I'm about to list some of his performance fleeces and waterproof coats on eBay and I wondered whether to put them on the womens pages as well

If you knew you could wear mens sizes would you simply search those pages, or would you appreciate knowing a comparable ladies size?  Conversely would that put men off do you think?

I seem to have been rendered indecisive today!!  Thanks x

Yes, I may be odd but often wear husbands 'outdoor' clothing & have fleeces & jumpers that are mens (usually much nicer than womens). He also wears mine!

I would def put them on the ladies pages as well, just be sure to say 'mens xl' or words to that effect, and I would put the physical measurements down as well.

I wear quite a bit of gents stuff, especially ski wear as a lot of ski wear manufacturers only tend to make up to size 16...and small 16's as that!

(send me a pm if you are listing as I may be interested lol!)

Yes I sometimes buy men's clothing, especially if it's "outdoor " gear, I find a lot of the woman's styles are in some idiotic colour so often prefer men's, also some manufacturers don't do the same spec in woman's clothes, especially hunting gear, I don't hunt but find the clothes to be more practical and better designed than fancy walking gear.

> in some idiotic colour

That's me :) The idiotic colours are always on really good offers in factory shops as no-one, apart from me, will wear them :) :) :) (Current dog walking coat is luminous pink - but excellent as very visible when walking on country lanes)

Same here - I always buy men's trainers for example as it's nearly impossible to find women's without pink on, which I hate! :-)

Loads of my everyday stuff is mens sizes, I'm 5'9 tall and just under 10st and 32" waist with 38" hips.........Yes I know I'm a freak :-D..........with long arms and legs. If i get ladies jeans so the waist fits the hips are miles too big and harder to get 32" legs in ladies. Ladies sweatshirts usually have the arms too short so they finish above my wrists.Depending what I want I usually go to the mens dept first!

Virtually all my jumpers are mens..ladies are too short in the body & arms..as to size that can depend on shop to shop, the same as any ladies clothing...Most of my jumpers are M&S & some of the more recent are Sainsburys.

oops, just re-read your post & it is asking something different to I thought but I think my reply may help...lol. It probably wouldnt hurt to put them on both??

I often buy men's (size Small) Vee necked jumpers as the 'Vee' on the Womens' version is often too low and I don't like showing my 'bits'!!  :)

Thank you I'm going to start off in mens but as I'm also selling one of my coats I'm going to mention his coats on my page too.   If they don't sell first time out I'll relist it in mens and womens categories.

I'm showing tomorrow so I'll upload the rest of my stuff on Sunday - I'm getting a bit boss eyed now!

Yes why do retailers think that if it's for women it has to pink and fluffy? All we want is something that 'will do the job'. I buy small size men's stuff,  (I'm 5ft 3inches and 8 stone at a push)it might be a bit too big but at least you can get an extra woolly underneath and who gives a monkey's what you look like in the dark and wet with 5 dogs in tow.

Whilst on the subject:  there are some great offers on Craghoppers stuff at the moment - mens and womens.  Worth a quick look at their website....

I have a couple of pairs of craghoppers winter trousers, very cosy, and if you can get the short length, perfect for us of a diminutive height ( aka shortarses )

For years I have bought from Cottontrader as they had huge sizes in their unisex range, having lost loads of weight I can now get into the ladies range size 18 from a unisex 4XL, use the old clothes for slopping around with the dogs, I am not into girly clothes, 39 yrs of wearing a uniform which started off all crisp and starched and now resembles pyjamas means I like casual when off duty, can't remember when I last wore a skirt or a dress, I have both if the need arises.

Thebright colours are fab for the piste but rubbish for dog walking. I wear mens pants for dog walking have done for years. Got way more pockets for keys, poo bags, phones money etc.  Better fit too!! And hubby can wear them and take dogs out so I get a rest!!

Hey well done you - that's no mean feat!

Why ?? Very safe for road walking and I find it useful to be able to see walkers coming in my direction so I can put mine on leads if necessary :) :)
