I just posted on my other thread that my old girl is now on optimmune for her dry-eye. Just wondering if anyone can advise me on treatment times. She is currently on antibiotic drops that I mustn't give within 15 mins or so of her false tears (so I don't just wash it out) Do I have to do simialr with the optimmune? Should I be spacing it out longer from the other drops she's on or will 10-20mins apart from the antibiotics and tears be ok? I've looked at the pack insert and cant find it anywhere.
oh, and last question; does it work?! anyone tried it?
Thank you!
I can't advise on treatment times (sorry!) but my boy had optimune as an ointment for about 3-4 years for dry-eye, and it worked for him (reduction/elimination of redness of the eye, more moisture present over the surface of the eyeball). Perhaps your vet could advise on the relative timings of your girl's treatments? Good luck, anyway.
Hi, thanks for your reply. Good to hear it seems to work as it's not exactly cheap! did your boy have dry eye in one or both eyes? I'm just wondering how usual it is to have only the one affected eye as my old girl has. Her ulcer is healing nicely but over Christmas as I was at home much more she had the artificial tears every 45 mins or so and that's not terribly practical long term. (If it's more than around 90 mins her eye is visibly dry on the surface)
Glad it helped your dog anyhow, fingers crossed!
Both my boy's eyes were affected, I can't comment on the single eye situation. I think that being an ointment it remains on the surface of the eye longer than a thinner formulation. I'm trying to remember what happened with my Mum's old girl, who had artificial tears, but her dry-eye was not so bad as my boy's. I think I was applying the tears 2-3 times a day towards the end.
(You're right about it being expensive, though: in a moment of madness I calculated the price up from the diddy little tubes to per kilo and nearly fainted when it turned out to be £13,000!)
