Topic Other Boards / Foo / Red wine stain

Not a good day yesterday, dog at vets with infected anal glands, pooed on by a bird whilst out walking the others and then I knocked a bottle of red wine over last night, it coated the cream leather dining chairs, wall, door and carpet :(
I immeditaely threw salt on it and today have vaxed it but as it is drying I can see it reappearing, anyone any ideas what I could treat the carpet with?
Annoyingly we are hoping to move in the next year or 18 months  so I really don't want to replace it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I always have a bottle of 'Wine Away' in the house which has always worked for me. I have only used it while the stain is wet tho' so don't know if it would work later. It isn't cheap tho' :(

Thanks Daisy, probably cheaper than a new carpet :) I am now looking at it and it has dried better than I thought. Will get wine away though to keep in as I am as clumsy as hell :(

Tonic water.  It's always used by inflight air crew on red wine spillages. :)

soda/tonic water to be used when just spilt i think, the idea to keep it wet and lift the stain, we had the same problem as my husband likes his red wine and also to fall asleep with a class in hand LOL

we used a soda cristals solution on dry red wine/blood stains with some good sucsess HOWEVER be very carful and test in a small place first as it can lift the colour out of the carpet ALSO as we found out in the dining room LOL LOL LOL

My OH did the same on Christmas day, red wine on the settee and the carpet,  and we got it off using white wine :)  We did test it first in an inconspicous area to make sure nothing happened as Kat & Co says too. :)
