All,

Out of interest, how do puppies manage to wake up at the same time every morning even if you went to bed and different times?

Since my nine week old Cocker has started to sleep through the night he starts whinning and kind of howling at 7.00am each morning.

Is this a permanent thing? How does he manage to do it at the same time?

Saves setting the alarm!

My schips do this but seem to know when it's a weekend and sleep in even the one's I've brought in! They have now taken to setting off at 6:15am about 15 mins before my daughter gets up for college so am assuming our routine sets their internal clock - how I wish the holidays where here again lol.

Think they go by the amount of daylight and will sleep longer during the winter than the summer, hope by next year they will learn to wait for you to wake. Ja:)kie

My lot wake up when it's light so I get a bit of a lie-in, in the winter!

My Cocker always goes to bed at the same time. It doesn't matter what's happened during the day or where we are she takes herslef to bed in her crate at 9.30pm every night :)

we work on the budgie theory --because murphs crate is in the conservatory we cover him up and he's quite happy --infact most mornings while we are having tea he is still snoring !!!!

Buddy is a real stickler for time keeping !;) every night at 10 he goes out in the garden for 15 mins and then comes in and goes to his cage to go to bed. Bless him!:D I always thought it was their bladders which controlled their internal clock! We get them into such a routine when they're young that they just carry it on as they get older. Lucy is funny about timekeeping when it comes to feeding, if you don't feed her before about 9.30 am she'll be sick, very rare occurance as we never get to lie in that late anymore!

Morgan Howled very loudly at about 6am every morning for the first two and a half weeks and then he stopped. He now sleeps (or entertains himself in his cage) until we get up. It was very scary the first morning that I was woken by the alarm clock instead of the dog!!:-) - I thought there was something terribly wrong and rushed to the kitchen. He goes to bed at about 11 each night. What I still find really amazing is the way he acts as if he hasn't seen me for three weeks when I go to wake him in the morning! Don't you just love them!!

Our boxer pup, Daisy Jones comes up to bed when my hubby does, usually 11 or 12, but she will have been sleeping downstairs off and on thru the eve...she sleeps on the sofa in our bedroom and comes in w/ us in the morning (like our 4 yr. old!) and will sleep there forever!
Bye,

My dogs seem to wake about the time my husband's alarm goes off. What gets me is Ben knowing what day of the week it is. He goes scent-hurdle training on Tuesday nights and he starts getting keyed up about it during the afternoon without any hint from me!

It looks like this is clearly going to be like this for the near future! I just pray that one day he will realise when its a Saturday or Sunday and be a little angel until at least 9.00am!

I think it might improve once we can let him upstairs at night when he is toilet trained and can manage the stairs more. Maybe if we put an extra bed in our room so he can come and sleep near us he will feel more comfortable. The only problem is, my other half can't sleep with the bedroom door open! He will have to way it up, sleep until late at a week-end or not!

When my husband is on his early shift and gets up at 5.15 am, the dogs don't even bother to get put of bed! Normal time to rise is 7 am, and 9 am on Sun. They never wake us first, they wait until we say it's up time!

On a similar theme, I used to take Teejay to get the newspaper every morning. On a Sunday we often met a nice man who stopped to chat and made a big fuss of Teejay - however we didn't see him every week. From Monday to Saturday Teejay never looked for this man but on a Sunday he would always stop at the junction where we usually met him and look down the road to see if he was coming. So, as well as times of the day, they also seem to know the days of the week !! :D

I'm not sure when Kass wakes up since she's always stood at the safety gate waiting for me- whatever time I get up:) And like was said before she acts as if she hasn't seen me for three weeks- it's lovely:) She never makes a noise in the morning to let me know she's up or anything.

Another update for you!

After writing this post, Toby decided not to wake up on Sunday morning, it was still all quiet at 8.00am when I got up anyway as I was a little concerned about the quietness!

All this week the alarm clock has woken us at 7.00am and not Toby!

I know the mornings are a little darker so this may be why.

It will be interesting to see how long he is quiet for when the week-end arrives!
