I've searched on CD and I know there have been recent posts about Dremel nail grinders. I've searched on the internet and apart from one e-bay seller I cannot find one for sale anywhere in the UK (my local PAH don't have them though have seen on other forums that's where people have bought them)!! Re the Dremel, I'm specifically looking at the pet one as opposed to the other models they do - I wouldn't even know where to start!!
So question to those who may have used both:
Which would you get if buying again?
To those who have used the Wahl:
Are they quiet or are they noisy? I've read very mixed reviews on Amazon, coming out half saying quiet half saying very noisy!
I realise the Dremel is cordless and the Wahl mains, I can work around that. Also Wahl is half the price - that sounds nice :-)
Any comments would be appreciated, thanks :-)

Well I have recently bought the Wahl from Amazon and am very pleased with it. Previously I had the pedipaws battery one, though good and very quiet it was not very powerful. The Wahl IS noisy but my 3 do not seem to mind it. I always do their nails with them sitting on the sofa and so they are relaxed. 1 of them has her nails cut weekly and is very good and keeps still whilst wagging her tail and giving me kisses. The others dont get their nails cut so often so area bit fidgety.... Obviously cos it is mains it is very powerful, but it was also very reasonably priced as I got it for £12.99 on Amazon Black Friday Deal.!!!

Not all Dremmels are cordless, I have a mains one, which I bought from Homebase & wouldnt swap it at all.
Why does it specifically have to be a pet one? Been using my ordinary one for 2/3 years on 6 medium sized dogs.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Decker-RT650KA-Wizard-Multitool/dp/B0001OZHF8I have this one, didn't pay that price - it was on offer at B&Q
It has 6 speeds but I've never used it on any but the lowest speed, which is fast enough. Not too noisy the dogs got used to it very quickly.
Had it about 8/9 years and wouldn't swap it for anything, I've never owned a power tool before, though OH has plenty :-D

I use a mains powered Dremel, bought from B&Q (other diy stores are available) and mine has a long flexible attachment that you then fit the sanding bit to so its very easy to get around and the main body of the dremel which is big and bulky (when you are handling a dogs paw) is several feet from you/the dog.
I didn't like the battery powered pet specific ones, I found them really quite pathetic and not up to the job so I'll stick with the Dremel - but you definitely won't find a Dremel or similar in a pet shop, you do need to go to the likes of B&Q for one!
No doesn't specifically have to be the pet dremel, just looking at specifications seemed a lot lighter and less bulky to hold. Also I like the idea of having something no one else could pinch for other things! :-)

As I have said before, can really recommend the Wahl.

Already have a wizard ..never thought about using it on the dogs nails... might give it a go ..thanks!
Yes, think I'll go for that. At 19.99 it's a lot cheaper than a Dremel and if I can't get the pet version I'd have no idea where to start ... and if got a Dremel I'd end up using it for other things, or someone else would, and my dog grooming gear would be all over the place!!
Just wish I'd paid attention to the Black Friday e-mail I got. Thought, nah, wont be anything I want :-(
Thanks for your comments ... shall I blame you if I don't like it ;-)
tigran - nearly forgot. Has it just got the one speed or can you alter the speed? Thanks.

I am sure that you will be pleased with it. Must say I was surprised to see it on Black Friday as most of the items seemed to be breast pumps.......!!!!!!!
LOL ... not sure I'd fancy one of those even if I needed one!!

LOL........

I bought myself a pedipaws to try to get Daisy used to it before progressing to the mains dremel. It's certainly much quieter, and not nearly as powerful, but as it only cost me 1p (plus p&p) from Amazon I'm not grumbling! With Mr Genie using the 'rugby scrum' technique of holding her still we got all nails touched with it, so I have hopes.

I just bought a cordless dremel and I love it, :-)
had it now for a couple years. Am thinking I need a new one cause its not holding the charge like it use to :-(
Just to update. I bought and I received my Wahl! Am very pleased so far. No experience of any others so can't compare, but one girly has been the 'victim' to date, and very happy to be so she is. I am also very happy with the results. I don't find the noise a problem - know it's meant to be the dogs that might, but they've all been very happy to have me run it next to their nails without running for cover.
Thanks tigran, think we shall be very happy with the Wahl :-)
Pedipaws for 1p?!! Bargain :-)
>Pedipaws for 1p?!! Bargain
