Hi all Just looking for some advise on my bitch,

She came into season 11 days ago but for the 1st 3 days it was a brown discharge and then lightened to a clear yellow (no smell or anything) for 2 days then proceeding to become red and bloody from then till now, yesterday she met with the stud dog being day 10 and she had been flagging her tail at home but on meeting the stud was not interested in him what so ever she would not stand and he had about a 5 second slip? I think it may have been a little early now for her, last night her bleeding became heavier (not massively but just heavier and dripping more than she previously was). Today day 11 she is lighter this morning and it is pink more than red? She is eating and drinking as normal and is weeing and pooing normal to. Is there any chance that the studs 5 second entry will have a result in pups? or have we got the days wrong and the brown discharge should not be counted as day 1 but the day she actually started her proper bleed after the clear yellow discharge? she is being very affectionate and clingy follows us round like a lost lamb but showing us her rear and on stroking her tail she flags? some mixed signals.

Any advise would be great.

Please see the other thread on getting a bitch pregnant, and bitches not standing.

Colour is no indication whatsoever of a bitches readiness to mate.  Flagging is a teaser.  I have a bitch who flags from day three.  She is not ready, but she is a total trollop.

The dog will know when she is ready.  Or you could always progesterone test.  :-)

Hi thanks for the reply,

Forgot to mention she has never been mated before and she is 2yrs old.

She is bleeding heavier still today, we think its around day 12 but should we have taken it from the 1st day of blood bleeding not the early discharge?
I have not got any progesterone test from fit and fertile and think it would be too late by the time I ordered some to arrive with the christmas post. Do you know of any vets in the Liverpool area that do these tests rather than fit and fertile?

is it possible that the she could get pregnant from the 5 second slip or is this very doubtful?

It sounds like you were too early and the slip was just the dog trying his luck.  You need to try her each day until she is receptive and mated on several occasions (I like alternate days until the bitch/dog indicates she is no longer receptive.

One of my girls is not ready until days 18 to 22, and others around 15 from first colour on a tissue test.

Based on her lack of receptivity and only a slip mating she is unlikely to get pregnant.

I have one who has started flagging today. She is just about to come into season, but hasn't even started yet! When the  dogs tried it on she told them in no uncertain terms what was what, yet she flagged for them.
