Is Kennel Cough really rife at the moment in the South East? Seems that everywhere I go people are talking about it.
We have it here - 3 adults and 2 puppies coughing at the moment and all confined to the house until it clears!
Never had KC before but think we brought this back from Camberley Open Show a few weeks ago and obviously it spread to all our dogs! Enough to put you off showing your dogs! Feel so sorry for my dogs at the minute!
To anyone who has a dog clearing his throat or even coughing - please keep them home!

We're in Hampshire and my lot had KC in early Oct - apparently it is rife at the moment. l've never experienced it before and it was quite pitiful watching my 13yr poodle suffering - she went on to develop pneumonia. My 3yr old had it solidly for 3 weeks - 5 yr old had it for a week or so but inbelievably the 5 month old pup never got it! l noticed one vet was offering reduced rates on vacs as it is so rife. Very unpleasant disease! :(

We were at Camberley DCS and we haven't come down with it...
However we were stuck outside for most of the day and only took one dog inside for a very short period.
Sounds like we were very lucky....

Sadly some don't care about others the draw of winning rosettes is far too strong than to heed the declaration
you sign when entering your dogs.

Although I used to have a dog (sadly no longer here) that used to clear it's throat/odd cough and that's because she used to choke herself
I did get it checked out by my vet as was so paranoid that it was KC and turns out it wasn't but it used to be a bit embarrassing
trying to explain that it wasn't the dreaded KC. But do admit even I do turn my head when hear a dog cough..

To be fair dogs can be carrying and spreading Kennel cough before they show symptoms, so ti isn't always anyones fault.

Its the time of year too, Setter and Pointer and LKA have always been key shows for picking up KC.

We're confined to barracks too for the same reason. One of my dogs showed symptoms 5 days after appearing at a show in the NW--they  hadn't been with any other dogs in the previous 14 days other than at a show near Coventry. I know there are many routes for the illness and it isn't necessarily deliberate recklessness on anyone's part, but we have missed LKA, training days, cancelled the Boxing Day visit and will miss a couple more shows before they are safe to mix again. I'm just glad they are not as ill as I'd feared they would be and that I can stay home with them to look after them.

Yes definately rife in southern Hampshire at the moment. Its starting to settle a bit now the weather has turned colder but early autumn was terrible, seeing several cases each day at the vets.

Kennel cough is a fairly common and highly contagious respiratory disease in dogs. It is also known as Infectious Tracheobronchitis. Most people have heard of "kennel cough", but do not know the signs of it.

I didn't until now but I'm glad to say mine are voer the coughing - taking a few weeks off training and showing before they get to mix with dogs again though - too horrible to take any risks and pass it on to other dogs!
I was lucky, none of my dogs required antibiotics, just rest and honey to help with the coughing!
