Just made my first liver cake using lambs liver - UGH the smell is grotesque! The kitchen resembles a scene from the film Chainsaw massacre. The dogs are following me from room to room and they have helped with the pre washing of the dishes & utensils!
I've postponed eating my chicken curry at least until the smell has gone from the kitchen, which could take a few hours!

It smells less if you microwave it ;)

How bizarre, never had a bad smell from cooking it, then again I do put a lot of garlic in the mix, so get that smelling about the room instead :-)
Even after eating my curry i can still taste the odour of the liver cake at the back of my throat! Does that sound daft? I have made triple the amount given in a recipe and put it in the freezer. The dogs love it though and yes i may just microwave it next time!

Yes, I can only make it if hubby is away for a few days. It's worked well this time, I have one bag left and he is probably away at New Year, so I'll make a batch then which will last the next year!

Same here - I also took a tip from an American website and always add about a teaspoonful of dried Oregano to it - that creates an added herby smell to it while cooking... this was suggested as a way to combat the cooking smell, and doesn't do any harm to the dogs (if anything it creates another appetising scent - it's well known that Subway shops pump Oregano scent into the air to entice people in!!!).
Have never noticed any powerful liver aromas, but then everyone is different when it comes to smells.

May just use that oregano tip...making some liver cake tomorrow, Usually add lots of garlic but could always do both. :-)

I buy my liver cake as i can't stand the smell. When i did make it my husband came home from work and said ''i hope that's not my dinner'' lol. It costs me £3.50 for 8oz and its well worth the money, all though i do buy several packs at one time which i freeze.

http://tastydogtreats.weebly.comAt the moment it's collection only they are in Ferndown in Dorset. When i bought the last lot from her she said they are going to do delivery as well soon, so if your interested in buying some treats from them and you want them posting to you keep looking on their website for when it's available. I looked on their today and i noticed she does samples now for 99p and she doesn't charge for postage which i think is really good.

i do not use liver i use plain liver boiled in water no salt then cook as normal, when cooked drain it and pat dry place on baking sheet and bake on a low heat until hard then when cool cut in to small bits place in bags and freeze and no smell other than the normal liver smell
