Poor Moose is not at all well and have an emergency vets appointment in a couple of hours.
She has been a bit flat for the last couple of days but I put that down to all that has been going on with Mike.
I took them all out for a walk before I went to the hospital and she seemed fine although very clingy and didn't go too far away from me. She ate some chicken wings last night but then franks loads of water. She is peeing ok and had a good wee before bed. Woke up this morning to pee everywhere and she wouldn't get up.
She just lay there but thought I would see about a quick walk and she tried but could hardly walk and was panting excessively which to means looks like she is in pain.ramg the vets and first appointment at 2 but if he is back off his rounds before they will ring and we can get her in straight away. Poor girl is not very happy :-(

Temperature is 104.5 and has severe pain we think around the kidneys so we are treating her for that at the moment but if she deteriorates in the next couple of hours or is the same tomorrow morning she will be admitted. I had to lift her out of the car and have her curled up by the fire with a warm bowl of weak tea to see if we can get her to drink but she isn't interested, I will try syringing some fluids into her later if she doesn't drink herself.

Thanks all. Had to take her back as her breathing became heavier. Her temperature is slightly down but she is still in a lot of pain so she has now had some tramadol so let's see if that helps.

Fingers crossed, Lucy. You've had one hell of a week and deserve a break.

Thinking of you Lucy, hope things start to improve.

How is Moose now Lucy? I hope the tramadol has helped and the vet can find out what's happening, as JG said it's been a hell of a week for you :-(

She is a little bit more chirpier and have managed to get her to eat a little bit of cooked chicken and drink a little but still lying down. I have got her up and she is walking like she is still in a lot of pain as her back is arched and can only walk very slowly.
I have coaxed her outside and let her back in again but straight to her bed.
I will pop her to see Stuart again this morning as she is still not right in any stretch of the imagination.
I don't want to have to use the emergency vet at the weekend so want him to try and get to the bottom of what we are dealing with here today by having her in a doing more tests if he can. She is only ten do not an old dog and although had that lump and the problem with the metacam a few months ago she has been a very fit lively girl.

Good news that you got a bit of fluid into her. Is she doing the sort of play-bow stretching? Because that can be a sign of tummy pain, especially pancreatitis. Hope you can get her comfortable again soon.

She isn't doing anything really . She struggled to get up and is just walked very slowly when she went out for a wee. She struggled to get up the step into the back hall. She is just lying there and just about managing a little wag if I go and fuss her. I had thoughts of a back injury at first but the elevated temperature and the level of the liver blood tests say otherwise. They are extremely high which could indicate it is an infection. I am going to see of he can do a scan just to rule out anything else just to be on the safe side as I would rather know what we are dealing with than carry on with something that is not going to make her better.
When mine went down very poorly the other week she had an infection under her fur. It wasn't spotted straight away and that made her sound similar to Moose. I would maybe give her a checkover right under her fur just incase its not all from something interal. Holly had two things going off but she was acting very similar.
Hope the vet gets to the bottom of it and Moose feels better. Sending big hugs and positive thoughts to your house. xxxxx

Is it possible the chicken wings have caused a problem? I wonder if an x-ray would be a good idea? I hope she feels better soon. (((hugs))) to you and all your invalids x

Sorry Moose is not so good. You certainly have your hands full at the moment and could do without extra worries.
My friends ESS had very similar symptoms including the temp, arched back, reluctance to eat or drink and abnormal blood pointing to infection. He was originally treated for a UTI and in fact this was nearly right but he had masked the symptoms for a while and eventually after a lot of tests etc. they found the infection in his water works had migrated into his lower spine. 6 weeks later after some very very strong ABX he is fine but he was a very poorley boy for a while. Back inj and spinal tumors were all suspected for a while and x-rays, bloods, and scans all showed nothing. They think he got the original infection from the river (Springer and water...like a magnet!) it tracked up into his lower spine. Only some very determined work on the vets part found the problems.
Sending healing thoughts and all fingers toes and paws crossed that you get to the bottom of it and sort it out. {{{hugs}}}

It is funny as thank you for reminding me she bolted a chicken thigh down on Monday I think it was and it got stuck and it took about 15 mins for her to finally regurgitate it so will mention that as just about to see him.

Date 09.12.11 10:32 UTC

Her temp is up from this morning so we are carrying on with the treatment for the moment and if she doesn't show any signs of improvement we see back again tomorrow

Continued healing thoughts from here Lucy, hope she is feeling better very soon.

Fingers crossed vet can get your Moose sorted asap, awful worry for you,

Still no change if anything she is slightly worse as she is refusing food. I had to lift her up and persuade her to walk to get her out of a wee. I will take her back this morning , we were hoping for an improvement by today so have a feeling now this is just not a simple infection. Poor girl is not right and cannot let her suffer this way .
