Well after working hard with Jasper for the past few weeks - some progress but nothing really that significant - he has taken to weeing in the house - first the bathroom, then in front of my beedroom door and now on our bed!!! and on my side. It was nothing to do with needing to go and not being able to get out as the door was open all day - such a gloroius day - and they will both go on the mat by the door if that ever happens. So I've made an appointment for the vets tomorrow for a tardac injection to see just how that affects him.

I read some old posts on here from June when we were on holiday - I gather this injection takes 2 -3 days to work but the effects last for about 3 weeks. Is that the norm or have others found different?

I am so hopeful that this helps to settle him. Fingers crossedXXX

For me Pammy that is about the Norm with my schip males when I have more than one female on heat.

This year I am boarding a couple of bitches for a friend they arrived in season and are now in season again and I have Tardac done with both my boys the first time as I knew my bitches would follw suit and with both it took about 3 days to work but the one who'd never had one the effects lasted a good 6 weeks.

Hi Pat, it is used to supress the male hormone & is sometimes called chemical castration becaused it is used to see if castration will improve what ever the problem is. I use it to stop the dogs being too interested in in-season bitches. Ja:)kie

Jackie ,Thanks a bunch I am going to ask the vet if he will try Zac on that
and if it works will get the whole job done on him

Pat, don't get too excited, the chances are it will not help. how old is Zak? If he is in the teenage stage the problems will pass and it would be a mistake to castrate him if he is going through a normal stage in his development. Ja:)ie

Pat

I agree entirely with Jackie. We have gone through a range of issues with Jasper and as he is now over two years old it can no longer be put to the adolescent stage. Sorry if you've already done this - but give us some ideas of Zac's problems and we'll let oyu know if Tardac would be a good idea.

Zac is one year old bouvier [never grow up I know] getting to the point of being dangerous to take out very unpredictable hates the traffic or loud noises around him,
pulls like mad tried every lead and head lead with him with out success.walks side ways when out ,he will not bark at people or go for them but you cannot stand still any moment he will take off just seems to be full of nerves when out ,Freddie 7 months what a different kettle of fish great to take out .

ps never had a dog like this I think Zac might have slight brain damage from birth

Don't think Tardac would help at all, but I would speak to your vet and see if they can offer any help, you can't go on looking after a dog that is worring you so much, some sort of help must be sort. Do speak to the vet and see if they come up with any help. Have you had a word with his breeder? If not I would they may be able to help. Jackie

I really do not want to open up another can of worms here.
So please this is just my opinion and I really do not want an argument re spaying and castration
I do not agree with castration or spaying unless it is for health reasons.
I hate to see a male dog without his jewels and I hate the coat and fatness of a spayed bitch
I am just posting to remind people who are considering castration .
A dog can have a vasectomy now so why chop if this can be done.
I see the point of spying to prevent cross and mongrels mating due to the
amount of unwanted pups.
I cant see why someone gets themselves a pedigree dog or bitch and then proceeds to chop or cut .
if you want a dog without bits then get a bitch . there are other ways to prevent a bitch having puppies without major surgery.
Iam not getting into an argument with anyone re my beliefs , so please if you feel like one remember its all been said
I am simply stating vasectomy is an option to castration.

You need to understand the reasons I am doing this for Jasper - Castration is the last thing I want which is why are trying Tardac first to see if it would make his life easier. We'll know in three weeks. I do not agree with routine neutering and will be devastated if it is the road we have to go down with Jasper - but I can't see him live his life in such a neurotic way IF castration will solve his problems.

In one way I want the Tardac to work well and turn my often unhappy totally hyper boy into a happy contented soul but on the other hand I really hope it doesn't work so then we can leave him intact and look for other ways too help him but using a process of elimination. Going down the tardac route allows us to try something before embarking on a road of no return that might not get us anywhere at all.

"if you want a dog without bits then get a bitch" - fair comment Mari, if that if your opinion, I respect you for that. I have the best of both worlds though as Jake is definately the biggest "bitch" I've ever had :D :D :D ;) He also quite often turns me into the biggest one as well

I'm against castration too as I haved lived with result of early castration for 10 years. But if it is able to help in the sort of situation that Pat has with Zac then it would be worth it but I don't think it will help, it may even make it worse. Unfortunaly what is needed is help with handling and training and most of us who may be able to help are unlikely to do so, after recent trouble with suggestions on training help. This owner is experianced and just needs help to see what is happening, as some times when you are on top of a problem it is hard to see the wood for the trees. The best thing would be if someone with experiance who lives near could help, and all I can suggest that she looks for someone in her area who has experiance of dogs with problems, who may be able to go with her on a walk and see what is happening. If Zac has a reasonable back garden then perhaps the answer in the end is not to take him out at all. Jackie

<<I hate to see a male dog without his jewels and I hate the coat and fatness of a spayed bitch>>

I had my (then) seven year old bitch spayed last year and she is the second one I have had spayed at this age. The first one actually lost weight after the op and by looking at her, except for the fact she is a few years older you would not know my present "spayee" is any different to the other bitches.

Neutering does not automatically equate with overweight

Hi Jackie good morning thanks for your comments I am going to take Zac to see the vet next week poor sausage he really has a problem when out indoors fine
I get him to sit down he takes food so gentle. The thing I have been watching is Zac eye's when out he has very rapid eye movement staring so we will see
but I am still keeping him my garden very small like a postage stamp but I see
what the Vet comes up with .Writing to the breeder today but Zac's sire hyper and the mother very shy. I wished the vet's had that opinion the vets seem to want to snip every dog going.PATXX Thanks again
