I have looked into two companies that progesterone test (fit and fertile and Idexx) and one says to test on day 8 and the other on day 10, what's the chances of missing the day the females ready by testing as late as day 10? As I do know that some females are ready on day 8/10.
Thank you.
i think if you go with the day 10 and your girl ovulates on day 8 it will show shes ready so if you go with day 10 just make sure you have a plan inplace to get to the stud dog that day.

Test from day 7.
Its not as simple as mating at a certain number .It it was life would be simple.Unfortunately all bitches are different and just because they were mated on day 9 last season does not mean that they wil be ready for mating on day 9 this season quite the opposite unfortunately. The only sure way is to track the progesterone curve and observe the bitch this requires a series of tests. You will only get away with mating at a given number in approx 35 percent of cases.

I tested on day 3 with one of my girls, she was ready for mating day 6, no wonder she missed twice previously!
i agree to test early if youve had girls miss before and also if its going to be last litter due to age then you dont want to miss but i would never start this early with averge bitch i also go with what the lines where like in the bitches ive been lucky its worked for us and i know theres always 1 that like to differ ;-)
This is my bitches first time so I have no idea what day she would be ready. So test day 8?
The stud is not close but not to far. He's about 2 hours away.
if day 8 makes you feel better (just incase you miss) then go for it :-) but if your girl doesnt ovulate till day 15 or later :-0 its going to be very expencive ,i know its not always about the money but id like to think about spending it on my girl and pups in other ways LOL ...all the best with your girl plus you never know you might only need 2 tests :-) x
White Lilly - Thanks, I think because I am a born worry wart I will test at day 8 first. I am really nervous as my bitch is due in season in the next couple of weeks, I know they dont always go to date but so far she's been every 6 months nearly to the day so I have to plan ahead. *gulp*

On the only two occasions I have tested, the first with the in house colour chart tests we needed 3 tests, as the first indicated ovulation imminent retest next day, the second the same and the third that she was ovulating.
I went with knowing from past season when the dog thought she was ready (she wouldn't stand and he gave up), so I tested from day 11.
With another bitch I had a quantitative test that indicated she was about to ovulate, this was done because the dog was not interested and having not been used for a while so the stud owner wanted reassurance the dog was not at fault. He happily mated her on day 18 to 20.
With all other litters I have been able to have the two on the same premises (mine or stud owners) and bitches were served multiple times when the dog and bitch so indicated. I do not bother to test routinely. Mainly as it was such a faff to get the vet to get the tests in, the other time the vet was more with it re breeding but charged a lot more than the cost of the petrol.

Similar story here. I thought that I was never going to get a particular bitch pregnant, and the vet advised testing as soon as I saw swelling. She was ready on day 4.
So do I test on day 3? Sorry for all the questions. Its my first actual litter were I am in charge although I have seen and been around for others litters.

I think that testing that early is really only done when it has proved to be difficult getting a bitch pregnant. Day 8-10 is the norm - in my experience.

How critical is it that she has the litter this season, if not , (not too old) then I would start at day 8 as advised.
Have you any idea from previous seasons when she seemed to reach the receptive phase? Was this early on or later.
been a long time since ive posted here :) we tested our girl on day 12 and had to wait till day 18 before she was ready. this season we tested on day 8 and her progesterone was past ovulation, we mated that same day and she is now 6 weeks in pup :)
Its not the end of the world if we miss now for her but I would like it to happen this time as the stud dog I have picked is not getting any younger and he really is perfect.
Previous seasons she's given no major indication, she bled throughout and kept wafting her tail and flirting throughout her seasons.

My girl that I mentioned earlier had two previous litters on matings at day 18, so unfortunately seeing when they usually are ready doesn't always work! Her daughter I tested at day 9 and she was already at the end so next time I'll have to do her too when she's only a few days gone.
Think I will test day 3, day 9 and day 13 if all of those come back negative. Hopefully will only have to do one or two but I guess best to be safe?

Hi
I am a bit worried i have to wait till day 11 to test with weekend etc, but fingers crossed...
Mum may be an indication on sesons, mine have followed their mum for season time etc..
Try not to worry your stud dog owner is very good.. :) xx

If you test on day 8 and she's not ready Idexx usually suggest when to retest. I guess F&F would do the same.
