Usually my boy lets me know about a week before, my girl had her litter just over 6mths ago and my dog has been showing strong interest for the past 4 weeks..no season yet.
Is he telling me porkies or is it because he has serviced a couple of bitches this year he knows more? lol.

My older male starts wee tasting about a week before my girls come in.

After each litter the pups have been 17weeks old when their dam came back into season.

My friend's male lets us know a week before. He is very reliable!

she is always once a year, after her pups she bled for an incredible 13wks although there was no problem so i kind of think its too soon. I think my boy is been silly. Saying that my bitch pup keeps sniffing her out aswell so hope theres nothing else wrong.

I agree with the above - perhaps it is different where the dog lives with the bitch?  I have the same situation now as the above - my bitch is due into season at the end of next month and the dog is starting to follow/guard her and GRRRRRR piddle on things - the swine!

It may be worth checking her anal glands or just checking to see if she has an infection. Other dogs can get very interested in/excited by the smell of infection.

our boy knows about 1month before he stops eating and like whats been said he starts wee tasteing....and same as ridgielover if anal glads are full some males think its a season 1 of our girls had been spade but our boy was interested in her so we took her to the vets to find her glands were very full.

Over the years, don't have any boys now, they always told me 3 weeks before.

ok my boys right shes def come into season earlier this evening, made a mess of the mat next to the fire lol. now he has the upset of being seperated from her bless him.
