hi this is on behalf of a friend is it still safe to flea her girl she was mated 8 days ago and due to be fleaed, any info on this would be great thanks

Why would she be due to be treated for fleas, if this is simply routine preventative, then she should not have it while pregnant.  I believe most flea products have warnings not to be used on pregnant animals.  Fipronil (Frontline etc) has been shwon to be safe for nursing bitches with puppies over 2 days old.

If she has a flea infestation then ideally treat the environment (keeping her away while it takes effect) bath, and comb her with a flea comb to kill any actually on her at the time.

>thankyou she hasnt got fleas

Then no need whatsoever to treat her for them.  Honestly!  I have a houseful of dogs and haven't flea treated for years!  And I haven't seen a flea.

If it isn't necessary, then tell your friend that her bitch will be just fine without a "preventative."

If she does have fleas, come back and let us know, and we will advise a safe treatment for bitches in whelp.

Hi Frontline can be used by in whelp and nursing bitches and I have done so. F/L only foes into the sebaceous cells of the skin so should be no problem but I might keep young puppies away for an hour or so until the residue product as dried.
I take some of my dogs to my grooming shop each day and there is the danger they will pick up and bring home fleas from other dogs ( has been known ) so keep my dogs protected all year round.

Just a reminder to anyone reading that doesn't know.  You can only use FRONTLINE SPRAY on pregnant bitches.

Don't use Frontline spot on.
