Does anyone have any experience with this NSAID? A friend's dog has died and it looks like it could be side effects.

Were the very specific dosage details followed?

It does look like a very potent drug and all antiinflamatories carry a risk of internal bleeding.

Yes she was on the right dose. I just hate the sound of any drug that stays in the system for a whole month. When she became ill, if she had been on any other NSAID such as Metacam or Rimadyl the vet would have stopped it immediately, and there would have been a good chance of savinbg her, but of course that wasn't an option here because it was in her system. She just didn't respond to treatment at all.

I'm starting to wonder if the manufacturers have changed it in any way.

Soli was one of the first dogs to go on it around 3 years ago - it had only just come out.  She was fine for those 3 years and it was a lifesaver for her.  I've had Tia on it no trouble since March, and at the end of Feb, I met a hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis specialist who has used it for hundreds of patients and never seen side effects and absolutely loves it.

Yet not long ago on here, someone mentioned a dog that experience mild bloody diarrhoea after a dose; Saffi's had similar trouble with it and I've now taken her off it (she had quite bad colitis, it had gone but the last dose made it flare up again after 6 months of just being a bit squishy for a week afterwards so for her sake she's not having it any more).

On the same thread, someone else said they'd recommended it for a dog and that dog had died.

Just seems strange to hear of no side effects for nearly 3 years and now they are appearing, which is what makes me wonder if Pfizer have tweaked it.  I'm certainly a lot more wary of it.

Maybe it's just that more dogs are on it now so there is more chance of hearing about side effects-- the more there are the more side effects there will be? I've done a search and can't find the thread you mention-- do you know where it is please?

I'm sure that will be the case.  It is, as I said, a very potent drug and we all know the serious side effects that all anti inflamatories can cause in certain individuals.  They always have to be weighed up against the benefits they may bring.
Once a drug is licensed it cannot be "tweaked".

My flyss was on it for the last 18months of her life, after being on another painkiller for arthritis for 3 years.here were no side effects but the pain relief seemed no better than before. She developed lymph cancer, and had to be pts 6weeks after diagnosis-i did wonder if the trocoxil may have had a hand in that, but logic said at her age,15,it probably wouldve happened anyway.
