Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Best food for dodgy tum
- By sillysue Date 07.11.11 12:45 UTC
Hi,
I am still trying to find the best food for my little terrier, she really does not get on well with Hills which the vet advised would suit her, and as she is small she doesn't eat too much so I can afford to pay for whatever suits her, as a small bag lasts for ages. I am considering putting her onto Orijen adult ( the meaty one ) but read on the featured topic thread that one dog had the runny bums from this food, is this a usual occurrence with all the extra protein ? My little girl has a slightly dodgy tum due to having parvo as a small pup and hoped that the 'no grain' would help her, but am now concerned  about too much protein.
If I go ahead and try the Orijen can you advise the cheapest online site, however will wait until I hear any advice from you knowledgeable people first before buying.

Try tins of Original Chappie

Thanks Nova, but she is not that bad, but it is just that she can react sometimes to certain ingredients in dry dog food thats why I wondered if she may do better on grain free. I am undecided between Orijen and Ancana. The upset tum is just something I have to be aware of when choosing her food but it is not bad enough to keep her on JWB or Chappie.

Why not try the sample bags (400g) of Orijen AND Acana? I'm sure if you do a google search you'll come up with various online suppliers. Where are you in the country as it may be cheaper to collect from a supplier in person?

Hi Pedlee, I live out in the sticks in Norfolk and also work so I tend to buy online for ease. Is there much difference between Acana and Orijen, what I mean is one less rich and therefore less likely to upset tums than the other. You are right, I need to buy samples.

They are made by the same company and they are basically the same ingredients but in different proportions (Orijen being 80/40 and Acana 60/40). I happily swap and change between O and A (and different varieties) when feeding my dogs with no ill effects on digestion. Without looking it up, if I remember rightly, Orijen Adult is 38% protein, whereas Acana Wild Prairie is 32%. HTH

Thanks Pedlee, I have now ordered a sample of each, so here's hoping they suit her. This choosing a food is mind numbing.
