I have just heard Westlife on TV singing Flying without Wings ,and was right back 18 plus months ago when I sadly lost my Cody cuddles .It is a song that I heard on the way back from the Crem with her ashes .The tears flowed then as they did tonight .I still miss her so much,She was & is my heart dog .
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 06.11.11 20:07 UTC
East 17 singing Stay Another Day is my tear song. Was at number 1 when I lost my first ever dog (a Golden Retriever) still sob when I hear it on the radio and that was back in 1994.

Are we talking of music that reminds us of our dogs past or just music that reminds us of a certain time and a certain sensation?

If it time and sensation then for me the best ever and most beautiful piece of sound is Fleetwood Mac's Albatross, it is everything that could ever be heaven, it is sunny days, youth, age, children and grand children, close friends, love, dogs, caravanning with dogs, and a sense of well being that makes you feel at ease and happy with all that you have.

Listen to it some time and see what it makes you think of.

What Peter Green does with that Gibson 'Les Paul' is spine tingling.

I think that what I was asking was thoughts on any music that gives the emotions a tweek ,be it happy days gone by ,sad times ,any songs ,music that gets to you on some level .

Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley.

It was just before Christmas 2002, and I had just lost my Dad.  I went to shop at Tesco one evening.  The Salvation Army were outside singing carols.  Everyone seemed happy and smiling, and I hated it.  I was devastated, and surounded by happy people.

Went into the store, and stood sobbing when I heard "It'll be a Blue Chrismas without you"  playing over the tannoy.

For me also, Albatross sums up all that you say, minus children, grandchildren & caravanning. I remember attempting a synchronised swimming routine to it & almost drowning!  Saw Peter Green in concert some years back here on the island, a sad wreck but still amazing.

Know that feeling Jean ,lost my Dad 23rd Dec 15 years ago this year, even with own children & grandkids its not the same anymore.

'Chasing cars' Snow Patrol gets us every time as it remind us of Brady when he left us. Also  as his name was Brady I used to often substitute his name into any song with the word 'baby' in it and that has come back to haunt me as well. There are hundreds of these songs and most of them are sad!!!
- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 07.11.11 10:50 UTC
corrrr i came on here to have a little nose about and have youtubed the songs that remind you lot, and im in floods of tears lol,

Sad song for me that reminds me of the day i found my cat who had been missing for 3 weeks then suddenly turned up laying at the bottom of our garden he was in a right state had been hit by a car and this song was playing in the car on the way to the vets Timbaland - Apologize (feat. One Republic),
my beloved fur ball Axel had to be pts, the vet said it was likely he had had been shut in a garage he was covered in oil, i always felt guilty that i hadnt gone round all the garages in my area and asked owners to check for him, he was a roamer i honestly thought someone may have been feeding him else where as he was missing so long, R.I.P Axel xx

Also as a child my best friends cat Douglass had to pts he was very old and had health problems, he was a very famous cat in our area at the time and we got a cab to the vets to have him pts this song was playing , Strawberry Switchblade-Since Yesterday

I was thinking about this the other day as friends were commenting on FB about songs that remind them of dogs at the bridge and i felt quite sad that i dont have a song for my old girl at the bridge and i dont have songs for the dogs i have now. My friends said dont do it lol so i stopped thinking about it until.......Luis Armstrong - "All the time in the world" came on the radio. It just somes up my current lab to a tea bless her. So i know she will be here for a long time but i will still smile when i hear that song :)

Fields of gold, Eva Cassidy.

This was played as everyone was entering the church at my mums funeral 5yrs ago.  Suppose there will be a time when I will be able to listen to it and enjoy it but not yet. :-(
- By Annabella [gb] Date 10.11.11 20:36 UTC
Very emotional song, but beautiful, when I listen to it I am in floods of tears reminds me of my beloved labrador that went to the bridge a few weeks ago as we walked in fields of gold every day and I still do.

Catherine Howe's beautiful song 'Harry' was playing on the radio when we realised that the worst had happened and that my beloved Harry wasn't going to recover, and that we would have to put him to sleep.
- By Elly [gb] Date 10.11.11 22:58 UTC
Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Eva Cassidy... My daughter and I sobbed and sobbed to that when we lost our lovely Goldie girl last year and then again when we lost our cat...its so beautiful and her voice is angelic...it was just so right if a song can be...
- By Celli [gb] Date 11.11.11 10:16 UTC
I watched the Imagine program that was on on Monday about Simon and Garfunkles album Bridge Over Troubled Water and have to admit I got a bit teary at some of the songs, Only Living Boy in New York, America, and So Long Frank Loyd-Wright, my mum used to sing them to me when I was wee, mum has pretty advanced Alzheimers, seeing my mum who was clever, funny, a bit off the wall and very loving, sitting in nappies, oblivious to her surroundings and family, is pretty hard to take sometimes.
- By dogs a babe Date 11.11.11 11:22 UTC
S&G Bridge Over Troubled Water is inextricably knitted into my childhood too.  Never fails to pack an emotional punch

Celli - I'm sending love and best wishes to you and your mum xxx
- By Celli [gb] Date 11.11.11 11:45 UTC
Thanks D a B x
- By penfold [gb] Date 11.11.11 11:59 UTC
Oh Celli, my heart goes out to you and your mum.  I suppose whatever happens with our parents isn't easy but that must be heartbreaking.

My mum had pancreatic cancer and I know how I felt when she started to 'lose' her sharpness, eventually not recognising anyone in the family - it is just so difficult.

Chin up and huge hugs. ((xx))
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 11.11.11 12:03 UTC
(((Celli))) its so awful, my nan had it and didnt know who any of us were :(
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 11.11.11 12:34 UTC
For Henry, 'Bright Eyes' - it has always made me cry, and I used it for his memorial video because so many people commented on his beautiful eyes. Even typing this makes me well up.

So sorry about the people with the ill mums, my own has a very rare cancer of the blood vessels surrounding major organs such as the pancreas and lungs, she isn't too bad as yet thank God, but we don't know how long she will have, perhaps 2 or 3 years. We have always been mad Queen fans and when at tribute gigs have had great fun with 'Tie your Mother Down' and I can see that being quite poignant (for a rock song) in the future! Also a song that my love of David Tennant led me to 'White Wine in the Sun', which is about Christmas and families.
- By Celli [gb] Date 11.11.11 15:25 UTC
Aww, thanks you guys, I feel as if i've put a bit of a "downer " on this thread !
Hugs and healing thoughts to everyone with loved ones who are ill XX

Lucydogs, White Wine in the Sun was written by my very most favourite comedian Tim Minchin !, I also find him strangely attractive lol.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 11.11.11 15:38 UTC
Lol, I've never seen him, but I love the song. :-)
- By Celli [gb] Date 11.11.11 16:13 UTC
You probably shouldn't have said that lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZqpa-7Q don't know if other versions will have his bit about commercialism at the beginning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GCyMtNl8T8&feature=related this one is my favourite, but it does have a fair bit of swearing in it. He's recently written a musical version of Roald Dahl's Matilda.

> my very most favourite comedian Tim Minchin

Ooh perhaps you are the one to ask - my OH and I caught the middle to end of him singing about babies/children on the comedy proms.  It was genuinely laugh out loud funny and I have one line stuck in my head...

Do you have a title or link I could at/for please?
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 11.11.11 21:22 UTC
Gosh, he's a funny looking chap! Love the song like I said, but give me David Tennant any day (if only!). :-D
- By Celli [gb] Date 11.11.11 21:36 UTC
Only one I can think of is Fat Children http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_ElXYzFX_w&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLB0C2B781F77FC8A9   or have a look at his own web site http://www.timminchin.com/. Most of his stuff is on You Tube, have a listen to him singing Hallelujah, he's really very good.
- By dogs a babe Date 11.11.11 23:09 UTC
Yippee - I found it - Lullaby (on YouTube)

...just brilliant :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 11.11.11 23:29 UTC
This is mine: Harry.
- By Celli [gb] Date 12.11.11 12:59 UTC
LOL, D a B, I hadn't seen that one before, I've sent it to my niece who's daughter has hit the terrible two's.

I haven't heard Harry for years !
