Wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I have a three year old Cavalier bitch, who is incredibly greedy; she is permantly scrouging, she steals my other dogs food (who will only eat in one place). The Cavalier absolutely wolves her food so fast, that she then vomits it back up within minutes.
She is getting the correct amount, and is fed twice daily (as is required with the food is she on). She isn't over weight, and is fully wormed and de-fleaed, vaccinated up to date, and is due to be spayed in January.
How do I stop her wolving her food down, and vomiting it back up?
We've tried feeding them seperately, in different rooms, and also in the same room with the cavalier in the crate.
Not sure what else I can do, any advice would be greatly appricated.
One way with labradors is put a large washed round stone in the centre of the bowl , so she has to pick round it to get at the food ...slows them down . Or feed her small and often , so she is getting what she needs bit by bit.I would stick to separately to prevent competition , even if it is the rock routine or small and often.
I was just about to post about the stone :)
I have to do that with one of my bitches. She unfortunately for her is a 'good doer' and so gets less food than a couple of the others anyway. She vapourises her food whereas my lad chews every mouthful 60 times lol The stone does even things up a bit
Thanks :)
I will definitly try the stone.
Fingers crossed it works (and she doesn't hover up the stone; which knowing her she will probably try!)

Thanks Tooolz.
That looks like just the thing I need, will have to look into getting one.
Many thanks.

Just what I was going to suggest! I've got one really greedy one, but luckily she doesn't vomit it back up. But by the time I've put the other 2 bowls down, she's nearly finished! How she gave birth to my picky princess, I shall never know.....
My bitch did the same thing as a pup; I put a golf ball in her bowl and it stopped her, or served her meals on a large plate. But, you can get a brake-fast bowl that has little columns in the middle the dog has to eat around. :)

If you are feeding kibble then try putting it in a treat ball, she will then have to work for her food and it will slow her down, hopfully avoiding the vomiting or worse.

>Try this
Wow, they are great. I have a piggy wig wig that would benefit from one of those.
It never ceases to amaze me how much you can pick up on this site.
Cheers tooolz. :-)

Something I have done with a very overweight bitch that I had back at 9 year old who inhaled food was to take her portion of dry food and scatter i in the garden on the patio slabs.
Obviously on her own, and this meant it took her quite a while longer to find and eat it all.
Others use the treat balls that dispense the food a bit at a time, but again the dog needs to be away from others so not practical in a multi-dog household, but fine for a single dog.
Similar things are done in zoos.

Please don't use a stone in with her food. It will not take long for her to chip her teeth on a stone/ brick in the food bowl. Either use a kong in the bowl or preferably buy a Brake Fast bowl (other makes available) which is specifically designed for fast eaters. It is a much safer option.
