Has anyone experienced this, is it normal? My bitch has been a bit sicky since week five, but she threw up twice this evening. She had sloppy poos (sorry if that's TMI!) yesterday and the runs today, even pooing in the house which is not like her. Obviously she wasn't told off, I just popped her outside and cleaned up. She's fine otherwise, has eaten a little boiled chicken and plain rice and is drinking normally; is it safe to starve her tomorrow and then feed back on puppy food on Monday? I think it's because I fed her something a bit too rich yesterday, scrambled egg with salmon fish paste, which might have brought this one, but if she doesn't stop pooing and vomming tomorrow she'll be to the vet's on Monday; does this sound like a safe option?
Would love your advice, this is my first litter and this forum and its members (all of them!) have been a life-saver for me these past months.

Is she okay otherwise and where have you walked her? Have noted you are in Norfolk? Have just heard of another dog sadly suddenly died from Canine Seasonal Illness.
Hi Elly,
No walks for her so late in the pregnancy as she mostly sleeps all day and I worry for infection. Our other dog has also not been walked for risk of infection either.
Yes, I also heard of that, it's close by in Thetford so but we're handing out anti bac gel for everyone and the dogs don't have access to shoes in the house, so hopefully we're going to avoid that distressing disease. :(

I thought you probably hadnt but had to ask! Dont know if it was the same you heard of, this was a goldie, hope its the same or 2 dogs have just died :( Its so worrying.
I hope your girl picks up and someone answers who has some knowledge...sorry..I have a male so no pregnancy knowledge here except my own!!
Thank you anyway Elly, I hope so too.
After talking to a breeder last night I'm going to wait until this afternoon before giving her some boiled chicken. She got up several times in the night to poo and pee, and puked in the night too (bile) so we'll see how we go today.

Steamed pumpkin or butternut squash will stop the runs provided it isn't due to an infection.
Excellent, I'll get some of that today Rhodach; thank you!
Well, touch wood, we've had no runs or sickness today, Mais is drinking well and has eaten some plain boiled chicken. Thank goodness, and thank you all for your advice!
It's ten past 1 in the morning and I'm up and close to tears; my girl has had blood streaks in her runs tonight, and has puked up bile. I know it'll be something fixable but you just can't help but worry.

Sorry to hear things are not improving, you need to get the vet to give her a once over to make sure there is nothing nasty going on and not just the pregnancy messing with her system.
She'll be in first thing tomorrow; I really hope it is just her pregnancy messing with her, but I can't just leave her to it and find out the worst when it's too late.
Is Pro Kolin suitable for pregnant bitches, does anyone know?
Will update tomorrow, right now I'm watching cruddy telly as she wakes me up each hour or so to go out so not much point in settling down for a sleep.

I have never given Pro Kaolin to my dogs[wary of meds with her being pregnant] as the pumpkin works well, I freeze it in ice cube trays and keep some at the bottom of the freezer, a couple of cubes does the trick and it's natural.
Have you started the daily worming with Panacur 10% at 40 days and that has caused the runs?
I'm wary too, will have to check with the vet that it's safe if he perscribes it. As well as pumpkin, does live yogurt work well?
Her worming started about ten days ago now and hasn't caused a problem so far, I usually mix it in with something nice as she's pretty reluctant to say the least.
The meal she had before hand was scrambled eggs with a little bit of milk and fishpaste (Was wary of milk but it wasn't a huge amount, not taking that risk again now!). I'm thinking the fish paste perhaps. Other than that, she's just had kibble, chicken, and rice.
Just got back from the vet's, who was really lovely and has been breeding Labs for years so knew what he was talking about. He even told me I didn't need such and such, and said as long as I'm happy, and Maisy's happy, we can leave their first check up until they're a few days old and as long as I'm relaxed and so is Maisy, we should have a calm whelp. I'm so relieved!
Gave us some pro kolin and said it's safe for bitches in whelp, and advised that he wasn't worried about her as she's quite happy in herself, bright eyed, and her temp. is normal. As long as she's stopped bleeding and pooing so explosively by Thursday, we're in the clear. Hurrah, and thank goodness!

Great news, they are such a worry though aren't they ?
You can say that again, I feel silly for being so worried but better safe than sorry, eh!

Thanks for the update.
Glad to hear the vet was happy with her.
Here's to an easy healthy whelping.

>Gave us some pro kolin
I always keep it in as a matter of course. I have given it to pregnant bitches, and to lactating bitches, with no ill effects.

Have been busy and not on CD for a few days so have just seen this. I hope she continues to pick up and be okay. Very worrying I'm sure. Glad you saw the vet - better to put your mind at rest and make sure everything's ok.
Thanks everyone, last night she went the whole night through without asking to go out to poop; excellent! Will keep giving Pro Kolin today, especially as I've perfected the beard-hold to squirt it in her mouth!
