I have had artificial grass put down.
I bought the grass from grasstrader ltd-they are in Middleton, Manchester. You get free deliverey. They seem to be an off shoot of Good as Grass. It is an advert on Good as Grass web page. Bottom left of their page.
I had two workmen who dug out the old lawn-then they placed a membrane on the soil-followed by 3 ins of aggrigate and 1 in of grit sand. Around the edge was placed a frame made out of 4 x 2 ins wood-this is for the grass to be attached to. The ground was then compressed and the grass was placed down and attached. Cost to me for a 4 x 10 metre space was £1500 that includes everthing.
I left no soil borders-the area is just grass.
The preparation is vital before laying the grass.
My quote from Good as Grass was £2600 for same grass depth. I got 38mm which is what they advise if dogs use it.
Had it down now for 6 weeks and impressed with it. No puddles left in all this rain no stretching of the grass. I have a Lab/Ret-J/Russell and 2 Toy breeds and the grass is coping well. So easy to pick up after dogs been to use.
Great not to have any more muddy feet in the home.

Thats useful, I keep wondering particularly as my son has been working for someone who owns aan artificial grass business as there labourer so could lay it himself with help.
It worries me about drainage and how you stop it smelling, I notice that as my dogs are trainied to go in one small area which I can dig over as needed the soil when disturbed still smells what do you think about the grass?
i have 9 dogs running over artificial grass and if the smell gets to bad you can use bleach, but i use odour kill and it works wonder have it in a large spray pump bottle and that works well

That's the good thing about artificial grass, you can disinfect it, unlike the real stuff. It can be done with diluted bleach, trigene, Zoflora (if you can stand the smell!) and it is great. I am glad that I decided to have it.
