hallo,i wondered if any of you might have some advice for me,please?Jess is now 2 and a half, and since Gwen has grownup,as comparison,,have noticed shes quite a bit wider than she should be!I looked at the rawfoods amounts chart and figured she should be getting 6oz of food twice a day,to lose weight, which seems to equal a blob of mince and a chicken wing.3 weeks later she seems wider than ever!Being raw fed she doesnt have any biscuit treats.I crush veg up in a processor for them, they have that every other day.She gets plenty of exercise,a couple of hours free running most days as well as training sessions and basic agility.I dont want her fat!Have i got to cut her food down evenmore?I can feel her ribs- -just!  the only treats she has are for training, tiny pieces of liver cake.Shes so quick im surprised the flab can catch up!

I think that would be a trip to the vet for me. Hypothyroidism is something that comes to mind, there are other conditions as well that could cause this sort of issues.

Whilst I do tend to rely on what the ribs feel like I also do weigh mine once a month because sometimes their coats can get fuller at different times of the year and they can look fatter than they actually are.

Thyroid problems can have a huge range of symptoms which vary from dog to dog. I have two dogs that are hypothyroid, both had completely different symptoms! However, putting on weight or finding it hard to lose despite doing all the right stuff is definitely one of the more common symptoms of hypothyroidism. If it is, then there is nothing to worry about; it is very easily treatable and once on medication doesn't affect their quality of life or lifespan. :-)
