How much do you increase food by in the latter stages of pregnancy? My bitch is 37 days now and is not holding her weight well so i have started increasing food and puppy food is on order and should be here in the next day or two.
How much should i increase it by as a general rule? and do you increase it by just adding another meal in? or do you find its dependant on the bitch?

As well as increasing the volume I raise the protein level and feed a very varied diet. A basic diet of 28%protein complete food. I gradually raise the amount week by week from week 6 depending on condition and appetite. At 7 weeks I give three meals but only raise the amount slightly(25%) spread over all 3 meals. At 8 weeks raise the amount slightly again and sometimes with a large litter expected feed 4 times a  day. I include scrambled egg or a  small tin of tuna/sardines/pilchards or some cooked chicken every day as well and a daily codliver oil capsule. Each bitch and whelping are different but I just feed to condition, but make sure the protein count is high as opposed to great volume.

I feed barf,so its a protein rich diet any way. However I divided this into 2 meals for my in whelp bitch, as I normally only feed one meal a day  but they will have meaty bones/chicken wings/carcasess/pigs trotters/ears for breakfast. However for her first meal I topped this with egg/tuna/mackerel/pilchards/sardines/pro botic yogurt etc.I don't know how other CDers feel but I gave 1 capsule of echinacea daily as this boosts the immune system and helps ward off infection. As my girl had reabsorbed 1 litter and had 2 phantoms I wanted her to have as much help as possible.
