Hi all,

another gormless question that I don't seem to be able to find the answer to...

At the past 2 champ shows I've been to I've been aware of photographers taking pics of all the dogs - are these official show photographers?  and how do you find out who they were and if you've ended up on any photographs? Where do you begin to look?

Also for future reference, I'd like a proper pic of my dog (not a blurry El Husbando job!!) are there photographers just loitering at dog shows or do you have to book them in advance?

Thanks! :-)

They could be official dog press photgraphers or keen 'amateurs'.

Do the official show photographers have a central place where they showcase their show pics? or should I just keep googling hopefully?

They tend to have their own websites, and each one usually works for one of the dog papers on each occasion, so there may be more than one per show. For champ shows photos are mainly of the main winners. I've never noticed a way of getting a photo taken a dog at champ shows by request (but haven't really looked either), but at many open shows if you win BOB you get given a free photograph session and can buy the photos later if you like them. Sam here on CD is a photographer at shows, she will know better if you can ask to have your photo taken, the only champ show I've seen it offered at for non winners is Crufts.

The Our Dogs photographers:

I have had several taken at shows and have gone to the dog World or Our Dogs stands and asked them who was on that day and if I could arrange to get a photo done.

My favourite photographer has been Alan V Walker as he will always try to capture the effect you hoped for as opposed to the cookie cutter two dimensional soulless photos you sometimes get.

We are lucky to have a very keen amateur in my breed who takes a lot of photos for our breed.

Your question has basically been answered by others...(I had to leave as I had been called for dinner..lol).
My breed has a number of good/keen photographers & one is actually working for OD. Why not approach one of the folk taking pics of your breed at the champ shows & enquire if they could take some of your dog either inside the ring/whilst in your class or elsewhere(this may be a little easier on the pocket). Or has been suggested by others, go to the Dog World/Our Dogs stand & say you might like a picture taken by one of their photographers. It would probably be best to do this early in the day as the photgraphers have a pretty busy day sometimes & they can arrange their time accordingly.

Thanks all!

I know myself and at least 2 other fellow competitors tend to take lots of photos around our breed (and for me at least, the handling/YKC rings), I tend to share my pics on facebook and make them public, especially if I've taken any random fun pictures.  Each of us have a fairly good camera...

If you see someone snapping, ask them if they have any pics or would take some, you may find you have a nice picture coming your way.

I'm another fan of Alan Walker, he's just taken a lovely shot of my daughter and actually caught her smiling properly!!

I've just looked back - is it a whippet you are showing as there is a good chance of pics here

I like to photograph at shows, it's lots of fun, and if I take some good ones of a dog or so that I know the owner of I email them to them, they're always pleased and it's a nice thing to do, often I can photoshop people's legs out and leads too, and then pop their name on too. Takes a little while but it's lots of fun for a photoshop learner like me!

Yes, I got some nice ones a year or so back of some of my fellow exhibitors dogs at Crufts, they were very pleased when I sent them. I'm not the best photographer mind you! One of the best photos I had of Henry was taken by Steve Jefford, but the more recent pics I've seen from him haven't been so good. Another fantastic pair of pics I have was taken by Les Denman, he had this little miniature chaise longue thing (not sure how to spell that this late at night, lol) and I have a wonderful pic of Henry lying on this thing, one paw just dangling slightly over the edge, with this gorgeous aristocratic expression which just says 'bring me music, dancing girls, come and adore me....' :-D

I'm another fan of taking photos at shows, tending to be at the working and pastoral days. I have taken some really nice ones and been thanked for doing so, some have ended up being profile pics on others fb pages.
I have no idea about removal of legs and leads, that i'll leave to the professional's out there, but I do take photos of dogs in the rings and ringside.. Just a shame that no one takes them of me when i'm in the ring, :-(

You only have to ask Jude :-p I'm not a professional - nowhere near, but I do my best and some of them are quite good!

> I'm not a professional - nowhere near, but I do my best and some of them are quite good!

I should be there at LKA with both of mine, so if Malakai is not around and my classes don't clash then I can do some of you in CED and or AM's. x

- By Lexy [gb] Date 04.10.11 14:38 UTC
Aha,now if its a whippet.... I can tell you all the folk I know who take pics..pm me if you want to know more.
- By Stevensonsign [gb] Date 04.10.11 15:24 UTC
I personally would ask for ID. and whether you are allowed by the breed club or show society to take pictures.I do not want photos of my dog on public domain . Not for any other  reason than it can be misused especially now days.
