Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Update of my pregnant bitch
- By waggamama [gb] Date 02.10.11 21:40 UTC
Hey everyone.

Just a tiny update, we're on day 38. I really think my bitch has caught, as she's had discharge, gone off her food (finally starting to eat again now!), all her nipples have popped out and gone pink, and are now getting much larger, and her mammary glands are larger too. She's also started showing and has a tummy now that seems bigger by the day; when she lays down beside me I can feel a huge mound that goes into her ribs, and felt pups there a few days ago, which was very exciting!

Scan on Thursday will confirm it, then we can start stocking up with whelping stuff (exciting!) and getting her used to sleeping in her box.

What does everyone else notice at this time, or do specially in particular? I want to make sure we're doing everything right by my bitch, which has been hard in the past weekend going from her shivering last week from the cold (quick, get her in a jumper and she sleeps in my bed from now on!) to the searing heat now (get those blankets out of the crate, damp tea towel and ice cube, stat!) but think we'll find a steady medium now.

Would love any advice, I really respect people on this forum and the experience they have. I feel so lucky to have found you all.

Fingers crossed for thursday then :-) Sounds hopeful ! I would be careful about palpating for pups though.

Sounds very promising. :) At this time I wouldn't really be doing anything differently at all, although once pregnancy is confirmed at 7 weeks I will start to increase the amount of food given, but otherwise the bitch is treated like she normally would be -minus shows and training classes.

Sorry, been meaning to reply to this.  Can't wait to hear back from you on Thursday once you've had your scan, but it all sounds really positive :)

Thanks everyone; definately being careful palpating, I only feel when she's on her side and the pups are actually sticking out of her, so I can just run my hand over her and feel them (though now it's less like golf balls and more like just one large mass which I can't distinguish for individual pups).

I'm trying hard to increase her food but she hasn't been eating properly for a week or so now and is slowly creeping back. Taken to hand feeding her when she hasn't eaten anything all day which works ok, bit time consuming but I got her into this mess.

Noticed last night her nipples are losing hair, too! She's a non-shedding breed that needs clipping so I was pretty shocked to find hair on my finger tips!

Will update with the scan, I'm so excited!!!!

I had to hand feed my foundation girl pretty much throughout her first and only pregnancy, time consuming I agree, but if it is the only way they'll eat it has to be done :-)

Hope you get good news today !

Exciting times.I scanned my girl during her last pregnancy. After 2 scans that showed nothing, and went on to have 2 phantoms that even the vet wasn't to sure if she was or wasn't and a third scan that showed she was but then went on to reabsorb - this time I didn;t bother and let nature take its course.I was only sure when I felt the pups move fairly late on.

How did the scan go? Our girl is going for her scan on Saturday. Pretty sure she has caught but just want to make sure we dont have a singleton. My partner is making a whelping box as we speak lol

She's pregnant!

I'm over the moon, the scanner came this evening and she was so, so lovely. I would recommend Kelly Simmonds to anyone in Norfolk, she's wonderful and so good at what she does.

We got a really clear picture (she'll email them to me), I never thought I would actually see the pups; I thought they'd be black dots! Well we saw full pups, one was even kicking about which made me just want to cry I was so happy. She counted six and said she thought she could see another behind but as long as it's not a singleton I'm happy. I'm just so pleased she's confirmed, she's getting so large that I would be so worried if she wasn't, lol!

So, so excited and happy! I could cry!

Thank you everyone!

I never thought it would be so enchanting to see, Maisy was completely uninterested to say the least though, lol!

I'm so happy we had it done and we could see the little lifes in her tummy, moving, interesting. I'm going to have it framed when I get the pic through!

Oh that's fantastic!! Only time we had a scan done my girl had missed, I didn't bother the other 2 times. Wish I had now!

Ok I had pics here but they've gone? Why was my post deleted? It didn't show the breed...

Just seen the mod post; it's a shame I can't post links to my own pictures, is there no way I can share a picture otherwise? Am I allowed to post my blog website so that people can see them on there? xx

If you have a blog or website, you can add the link to your profile but you can't share photos on the boards or post links to your site/blog on threads, sorry
