Hi there

Our medium size gundog bitch had a litter of 10, 17 days ago - its her first time and ours with anything this big (previous litters were a small breed).

She seems to be struggling to provide enough milk, we plan to wean onto Royal Canin Medium starter if we use Welpi to make a porridge is it too early to start them weaning or should we just use the Welpi in a bottle to supplement the bitch?

Thanks in advance

I have weaned from 12 days and know others who have done it from 10 days no problem, started with puppy porridge, looked like Ready Brek and was very messy, don't know how much they actually ate as a lot was all over them, the scrambled egg with cheese went down a storm, none left for Mum to clear up, puppy moist trays again messy but they did enjoy,RC  reproduction starter soaked in warm goats milk, took ages to soften to mashable so needed to plan ahead, these options were alternated between 4 times per day and later raw minced Aberdeen Angus beef[on offer at the time] which had been frozen first and defrosted was introduced, had no tummy upsets and weight gain was good, by 6 weeks the kibble was dry and at 8 weeks changed to RC Junior 3 times per day and one meal of mince, it is hard at first to know how much to offer, I felt better if there was some left over as I knew they were full and the adults got the left overs so nothing went to waste.

This regime may not suit all pups and someone else may be along with other suggestions.

Hope it goes well.
