Hi,   I have been trying to find a vitamin tablet or powder that has no yeast or liver in it for my Dalmatian pup.  He is being raw fed and there is a lot of food that is high in purines that he can't have eg: organ meat, yeast, amongst others.  I was advised to give him a childrens vitamin, but would rather use a dog one if i can find a compatable one.  Can anyone recommend one?

Are you getting breed specific advice to help with his raw diet?  It might be worth exploring how you might be able to extend his diet a bit rather than having to compensate with extra vitamins.  Can he have kidneys, lung, heart or are they on his NO list too? Does he get the full range of muscle meats?

If you know there are elements he is missing out on it might be worth looking at someone like Dorwest Herbs.  They should be able to discuss his diet with you and pinpoint any deficiencies.  I feed raw too and I buy Keeper Mix from them.

You could also look at joining a raw feed support group like BritBarf - there are a number of experienced dog people and raw feeders on there who might be able to give breed advice.

Or Hyperdrug do an equivalent of SA37 which is no longer on our shelves.
Not sure if this will cover what you need.

Dorwest Herbs is also very good company and very helpful.

They're a no as well, I'm afraid, and most red meats can only be given sparingly; oily fish never, as with offal, and certain vegetables (mainly brassicas).

SA37 used to contain yeast, so wasn't suitable.

Hi JG thanks for that - I didn't realise that so many meats were off limits.  Is a raw diet the best option in this instance then, or might he do better on half and half with a good kibble?

You have (had) Dalmatians haven't you - do you feed extra vitamins to yours?

I must admit to having doubts about the wisdom of a totally raw diet for dalmatians, but that's coloured by my personal experience - I thought it seemed a really good idea in theory and followed advice from raw feeders (joined Britbarf etc) - and four months in one of my dals, at the age of 7 years, obstructed with a stone; on surgical removal it was seen to be very small and the experts at Minnesota reckoned it had been growing for about three or four months. Coincidence? Possibly - but I won't chance it again.

As a raw feeder but not a dalmation owner I find that very interesting. Just as a discussion point what do britbarf experts think about raw feeding dalmations ?I agree with that restriction on what can be fed I would be concerned about my dog getting everything it needs with 100% raw even though that condradicts my belief of raw feeding. No offense meant to people who raw feed differently to me its just an opinion..
I can understand where you are coming form Jeangenie
