Euro Dog Show 2011 Netherlands,..numerous golden retrievers were apparantly poisoned immediately after competition. In the same box were 7 Golden Retrievers of which 3 have died and 4 have survived so far..police are now investigating...one had just been named Vice Champion of Europe, another one is young champion, Victoria, aged 14 months, which in the past couple of months was said to be "invincible" in competition in Western Europe, and she had just won first place, they were from the same kennel. Heres one of the stunning boys who died, so sad, what a shocking state of affairs. I feel sick. Run free sweet dogs and may the surviving dogs recover safely and fully and the person responsible for this be caught immediately...and I wont say what they deserve!
I feel sick to the stomach.

No matter how competitive people might be, rivalries between peopel, clash fo personalities/dislikes, but how could anyone hurt the dogs.

How dreadful, I hope they catch the evil person responsible for this. Shocking that people will do this to an innocent animal.

They were NOT poisoned !  Here is the accurate report.  http://www.lc.nl/friesland/regio/article14076863.ece/Dertig-honden-bevrijd-op-heet-beursterrein#.TmSUlSnIvmQ.facebook  The rough translation is :-

LEEUWARDEN - Sure thirty dogs were freed last weekend in overheated cars at the Euro Dog Show in Leeuwarden. For three top dogs came to late.

She died in an overheated van at a hotel, where a total of seven Golden Retrievers were. Police had closed doors of trailers and to force the overheated cars open it. The Animal Rescue has assisted.

I was there until late Saturday afternoon and from the morning it was baking hot.  The show tannoy kept asking constantly for people not to leave their dogs in cars / vans / motorhomes. There were alot of officials patrolling the parking and camping areas and good on them that they acted quickly with the police.  No messing about there.  They forced several vehicles open.  I did not see that many dogs left in vehicles but those that were the officials did not wait around until it was too late.

I would question if this was 2 different things.

Not sure it translates that 7 GR's were in a minibus at a hotel and 3 of those who were 'top dogs' died from over-heating. Reads like the same dogs to me?

Terrible, but at the owners hand it looks like from that report, good to know there is not some competitive poisoner out there that would be even worse, mind you for the dogs a poison would have acted quicker I guess, terrible death for them. :-(

Well I am going by what I have heard and read and I have now just read this too,..  http://www.retrieversofgoldenduck.com/index_menu.htm
whatever though its tragic for the dogs and horrific but if someone has poisoned them and others then its a huge worry too that people are out there as it happened at another big international show too didnt it in a car park...San Marino.

You have to scroll down through "older posts" and it is there.

This is so tragic however it happened.  Sorry but just an observation, are these dogs actually white?
- By Goldmali Date 06.09.11 12:38 UTC
Ah -there is BOTH a "Euro Dog Show" and a "Euro dogshow" page. Found it now but see nothing whatsoever about it being an official statement, the person who posted could be anyone, and it keeps referring to a newspaper article. I think it might be best for anyone to not speculate too much as there clearly are two stories out there.

Golden Retriever breed standard: "Colour: Any shade of gold or cream but neither red nor mahogany". They are cream.
