we have a two year old pug she is house broken apart from if she thinks her dinner is being made,or just now i was in the kitchen daughter just come home from first day at college, OH walks out the living room to see how she got on at college i walk past him and she is standing there weeing on the floor and the living room door is open to the garden how on earth do i stop this, we can't always remember to put her outside if no one is going to be in the living room, and the back door was open so she could of gone outside, she does not have an infection been checked out so any ideas please as how to stop this as we think it has become a habit and we need to stop it , she has sometimes started to do it when someone is in the room with her when she hears the dinner dishes clanging and they yell at her to stop so it is not just when we leave her alone, we can go out to go shopping etc and no mess when we come home from her so she associates dinner with pee on floor

I think you will have to put her outside while you prepare her food. or
Try making sure she goes out and pee's just before you start to feed her and then huge praise.
Make sure the whole family know that if they leave the room the door MUST be shut behind them. Never leave her in there alone and keep it up for a long time so the habit is broken (12Months). It takes far longer to break a bad habit than to start one..

I'd be a bit concerned this may be submissive urination rather then broken housetraining and yelling if its submission will definatly make it worse..
I'd be more inclined to bung her outside when there is something going on that you know will make her pee and definatly no getting upset in front of her as the more anxious she gets the worse it will get.
I'd also start treating her more like a pup regarding the toileting- take her outside every couple of hours and stay there until she performs- and when she does in right place praise her up. to speed up the performing and cut amount of time you spend outside teach her to pee on command- its very easy- just keep saying a comand word in a jolly tone of voice while she is in full flow - we use phrase 'hurry up!' at least if you are taking her out and making sure she has gone there will be less capacity for accidents in the house.. but mostly please try not to get angry or upset as in peeing accidents it will make it worse.

What a brilliant post, weimed!! Wish we had a like button.
Just to add, we had a submissive bitch who, after her first season, would wee if you looked at her. We went back to basics, treating her like a pup(obviously not every 20 mins but frequent) and TAKING her outside and waiting till she wee'ed. Ignoring her/the behaviour in the house was hard but her confindence grew and she eventually grew out of the habit with a LOT of toilet breaks. Literally take her outside, don't just chuck her out and close the door. She needs to be reminded where is acceptable and where is not.

I've got a similar problem with my 14 month old! She is mostly ok during the day unless it's pouring with rain, but it's overnight that I have a problem. I take her out to wee at around 10pm or 10.30pm, but there's nearly always a puddle and sometimes a poo too by 7am when I get up. Surely by this age she should be able to hold it? It's not a new problem so I doubt there's an infection or anything. Even when I leave the dog door open overnight (which she uses just fine during the day) she still pees on the kitche floor. I don't tell her off or anything when I come downstairs, just say hello to all of them, send them outside for a wee, and clean up. *sigh*

lol same here!!! its real hard to ignore that yellow river but knowledge getting annoyed would make it worse is a good incentive to staying calm and ignoring. our girl grew out of it with a little patience. still have to be a little aware when she has a marrow bone that its best not to look at her too much but small price to pay for dry carpet.

Lucydog... think I'd be tempted to try a crate overnight and see if that enables her to consider crossing her legs a little firmer..

Yes, I keep thinking that, I'm just too lazy to drag the crate into the kitchen! Must make an effort!!! I am the world's self confessed worst house trainer....

>and they yell at her to stop
I'm convinced that this is exacerbating the problem. She needs to be treated like a puppy again. Certainly, I feel that she is picking up on the anxiety that is being felt.
And I have to say that toy breeds (for me at least) are always more difficult than larger breeds. (Collies being easy peasy!) :-)

Success! Got my lazy self in gear and dragged crate in, puppy looked extremely miffed even though she had water and a nice comfy bed pad, hubby said 'why does the poor dog have to sleep in a crate??' and I said 'because I'm sick of mopping the floor every morning!' And came downstairs to a lovely clean floor this morning. Note to self: be less lazy about putting dog in crate overnight!

excellent Lucydogs :) its lovely comming down to a clean dry floor and hopefully after a while she'll get idea and not need crate

She pooed on the floor during the morning even with the dog door open, but that's because she hates going outside when it's rain, precious princess that she is. And hubby is the one who works near enough to go home at lunchtime, so he had to clear it up, haha!

I've had to carry 3 of mine outside this morning as they couldn't POSSIBLY get their paws wet so refused to go out. What gets me is HOW do they know?? I mean they won't even go near the door, yet they know it's wet outside!

If only! Mine expected ( and got) a walk in pouring rain yesterday and today. Now they are still soggy & smelly on the sofa!

But what a sweet perfume eh, you know the one it's a blend of wet dog with a mere hint of mud and twig and just a tiny drift of foxy poo and in the background the tiny suggestion of l'air du upchuck avec essence of marrow bone ;)
Yes I too walked my furry 5 at some unearthly hour, at 5.30am every day and every day I say I'll not do it tomorrow, and every day I do and who can find the poo's in the dark :(
