Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Red book question

Can some one kindly look in their red book for me?

Just want to know what the rule is regarding when the challenge for the CC should be done?
- By Lexy [gb] Date 29.08.11 20:45 UTC
the challenge for CC (assuming it is a set & not single) would be done after all of that sex had been judged..this in general would be after open class.
Not found a specific rule in the book yet.

In each breed the dogs are judged first, and the winners of the breed's dog classes come together to challenge for the CC. The overall winner in this challenge is awarded the CC. Then (at the Judges discretion) the dog which was second in it's class to the CC winner, and only beaten by the CC winner, joins the other unbeaten dogs for the award of Reserve CC. The same procedure is then followed for the bitches.
The CC winner in Dogs then meets the CC winner in Bitches for the title of B.O.B (Best of Breed). This breed representative then goes forward to the Group.
The awarding of the CC and the RCC is not automatic, if in the opinion of the Judge there are no dogs present which would be worthy of the title of Champion, then the CC can be withheld along with the Reserve CC, and any or all class awards.

Thanks Lexy, no rule saying both DCC & BCC can/can't be done after both sexes have been judged?
We had both sets of CC's done after Open bitch, I don't have a problem with it being done then but alot of people were moaning and saying they think it was against the rules.......however catalouges at all breed CH shows do have the bit to fill in DCC & BCC down after OB class and not under the OD class for the DCC.

Hi kayc sorry my question reads as if i was asking about the CC in general. I meant when as in time frame when
I understand all the below already as have been showing for 7 years but it's very good explanation for newbies :)

No, there is nothing that says that it has to be done how it normally is & not after both sexes. With my breed at virtually all club shows have 2 judges & dogs & bitches are judged in separate rings at the same time, means that the cc's are done roughly together. Not explaining very well but hope you get what I mean. Apart from it meaning that the dog puppies have to stay til the end then I dont see it being against the rules, just different.

Cannot see anything in the rules, regarding when it should be done, so would have to assume it is acceptable but highly unusual.

If the judge has awarded CC's previously, might be an idea to try and find out if he/she has done the same thing at previous appointment/s

At our club shows where we have 2 rings/2 judges the CC's are done after both sexes are judged, the rings are usually opened up into 1 big ring with dogs first. If we have 1 ring (1 judge or 2) CC is done straight after each sex and it's the same at all breed champ shows.

Judge decided to do CC's at the end of OB at SKC and as usual people complained etc etc yes it would of been nice to know at the start of judging as we only found out at the end of OD and everybody had all the dog winners waiting to come in and MPB's weren't ready but its not a big deal but some people are making a mountain out of a mole hill and I just wasn't sure if there was a rule about it.

Nope judge has never done it before.........maybe just thought it would be nice for everybody to stay & watch the bitches, who knows, maybe we will find out in the critique.

I recently queried this with the KC as our club wanted to give all awards after bitches in the hope that there would be more people around 'at the end' The KC said that while it was not "custom and practice" it was acceptable.
