I really shouldn't even look at them as they anger me so much but some of the things on there really are beyond ridiculous

Today i have seen:

11 month old japanese akita male fully house trained brilliant with kids, very soft and loving, need to go due to my other dog having pups and wont have time for him. £200 or swap for what u got [pc/laptop/tv/blackberrytorch/iphone/xbox360/ps3] text or ring mee this is an urgent aad

willing to swap hardly used silent nite box bed , no head board or matress inc ! was 600 quide. very stylish & plenty of room for storage . swap for a chocolate lab pup or up to a year old boy. Im looking for companion for country walks & fishing,. experienced dog owner last dog reached 16yrs

I have a puppy chihuahua for sale he is 11 weeks old, comes with little jumpers sparkely collor bowls food etc...selling due to moving aboard he is fully pedigee he is kc registered comes with all papers , he is fully house trainned and really good and loving he is good with children and loves loads of attention also good with other animals we will be really sad to let him go- we are asking for £500 ono for him and as we paid £800 for him

There is also litter of KC registered Belgian shephards - (Tervueren I think), KC registered, health tested & show quality - maybe once the breeder has looked around and seen the other ads her ad is surrounded by she'll withdraw it.

The thing that got my back up the most was the RSCPA and Petplans adverts being all over the page whilst I was looking at an advert to swap a dog for a bed!!!!!

I think this relates to the other thread on Facebook advertising
http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/board/topic/132631.html
I do think if adverts are to be allowed you actually want the presence of decent breeders and probably not a bad thing to have the RSPCA and insurance there as well.
Incidentally, it is probably best to discuss these adverts without detailing them because it is just possible passing readers of Champdogs may be interested in Googling those texts to actually purchase one of the advertised dogs.

Oh Hadn't seen that thread.

My worry is that people may feel that with the RSPCA's banner and working arrangement with gumtree that some people may actually think the RSPCA condone the swapping of animals for phones or furniture?  I do feel the website makes animals seem disposable.  How do people manage to have a puppy for 2 weeks then find they suddenly have a job and children and are too busy so then sell it on free ad sites?
Maybe the whole discussion we had the other day about refund policies would come in here - I think it was you Stooge who said you would refund all the money to get your pup back.  Maybe some of these people on these sites selling 12 week old puppies etc. feel that if they returned to the breeder they'd loose their money so instead they'll just re-sell.

I hadn't thought about the impact that breeders that have health tested have on the website - I suppose seeing that someone health tests etc. may make you think what's health testing and find out a little more.

I really hope no-one on here is hoping to swap their puppy for a new bed but your right that if someone did just google dog swap this thread may come up!

There is that but what I meant was by giving the full text of these adverts someone reading this and wanting a chihuahua with glittery bits might google the ad and find out just where to get one.  All sorts of people read Champdogs.

Quite the reverse people need to see the alternative (health tested well bred pups) to show up the difference.

I agree with this, without decent, responsible breeders advertising on these sites then the general public will not know there is an alternative.
