Feeling an utter fool I'm doing this post to warn other CD'rs
I got a phone call last night ( Indian ) claiming to be microsoft, telling me I had a big problem on my laptop, so sure enough, when I clicked into the bits they told me too, all these alerts came up, over 4,ooo of them !, being a complete idiot I then allowed them to gain remote access to my laptop to sort the problem. I started getting a bit suspicious and said " is this a scam ?" of course the chap said no, he was from microsoft blah blah blah. I really twigged it was a scam when he wanted me to buy 3 years tech support, no way was I giving him any of my bank details, at this point he got quite annoyed, saying I didn't understand and that even if I got another laptop I'd still need to buy this tech support. This is when I'd had enough, told him to eff off and slammed the phone down. Fortunatly for me that lap top had just got back that day from having a brand new hard drive on it so there was nothing on it at all. The old laptop has probably now got a key logger on it so they would be able to see what keys I was hitting and so get my card or bank details, so I'll need to take it in again and get it cleaned before I use it.
Thankfully this has just been an inconvenience for me, but it could have been a whole lot worse, so beware if anyone phones from microsoft and tell them where to go.

You won't have been the first.  These people are so annoying.
My latest angle is to stay polite but ask them if they have considered whether this was the profession for them that their mother dreamed of the first day she held their little body in her arms :)  Do they phone her up with pride and say "I scammed another middle aged lady today, Mother".
I have to say it doesn't seem to cut much ice but you never know :)

LOL, I'll try that one if they phone again, certainly more polite than my method of telling them to eff off .

'Fraid I simply say nothing and put the phone down. The same with people who come to the door, I just say 'No thank you' and shut the door. There isn't any need to engage in conversation :) Stops the blood pressure rising :) :)

They phoned my dad twice today thankfully he didn't fall for it phew!  He tried to phone me after the first phone call worried about it but I was at work so he didn't get to speak to me, so glad he realised it was a scam.

They phoned me last november.

I was told that my microsoft machine was faulty and they could fix it!  WOW!   I asked them what made them think this? and they said it had showed up (on what??)   I said that's amazing since I don't have a microsoft computer :-D   They said it must be!!   I said no you don't understand I DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER !

Phew, a close shave :-D

Well not really, I run my computer with Linux (Kubuntu) Mwahahahaha   No back door for anyone to get through :-D

They have been active around this area too :(

I had a call.....luckily I was quick enough even though I was tempted to agree with him and fall for it, I am gullible and do generally believe most things.

A friend of mine followed his instructions and had to get it sorted out with police and \computer specialists.

Be warned!  They will continue to phone.  I get these calls frequently and I think it's because my OH nearly got taken in too so they keep trying now.  I just hang up without saying a word.  One night they phoned several times but I just kept hanging up.

We get them as well. I sound very concerned and say I am just going upstairs to the pc and then leave the phone on the side. Longest they waited was 8 minutes!

Yes I thought that I had mentioned it on here before.  My husband played them along to waste some of their time but they took that as if he was a soft touch and kept phoning back.  I asked them which computer were they talking about because we have 3 in the house to which they didn't have an answer.  The trouble was my husband had been struggling with his computer and had had to phone the company that had repaired his it before.  For a few minutes he almost believed them.  In the end I got quite cross and told them that I was putting the phone down and there was no way they were getting access to my computer.  The guy thought he could talk over me and was getting desperate - he was still talking when I put the phone down.  Unbelievable!

That was fun lol.

I have had one of these calls recently and I must admit to losing my temper and slamming the phone down on them. She only got as far as saying there was a problem with my computer. I won't tell you what I said but BT could get me into trouble for the language used ;-)
