Topic Dog Boards / Health / Petzlife spray/gel, do they work?
- By CVL Date 26.08.11 11:02 UTC
I'm on a mission to keep my young dogs' teeth clean.... I'm getting quite frantic about it, having lost a dog under GA for teeth extraction/cleaning, it's something I want to avoid at all costs now :-(  My older bitch doesn't have particularly good teeth so I'm trying to be pro-active!

I regularly clean their teeth with virbac enzymatic toothpaste, but I'm not sure how effective this is.  I like the idea of the spray because it will get to places I can't with a toothbrush  (and would avoid the inevitable fight I have with the toothbrush!).  The gel sounds good too though.

I've seen the petzlife products recommended on here a few times, so I was wondering what people use (spray/gel/both), how regularly, and what kind of results they've noticed?  It's not cheap, so I want to be sure it's worth the money.

Also, are there ever any show offers?

Thanks :-)

Yes I've been looking at this as well. My dogs clean their own teeth with marrow bones but one of them doesn't like the bones and I have been looking at ways to clean his, minus the toothbrush which he hates.

I'd have a riot on my hands if I went at them with a toothbrush, never mind the descaler I bought in a fit of enthusiasm.

Marrow bones are out, my oldest boy confiscates them off the others and if I separate them from each other they refuse to eat the bones, they just want to be back together...so I'm using Plaque Off at the moment and it has made a substantial difference after 5 weeks. Both Petzlife and Plaque Off seem to say that while they get rid of plaque, they won't necessarily return teeth to pearly white. Or has anyone found differently?

I have a dog that goes nuts with sprays, I have no idea why, so the gel seemed a better bet to me. The Plaque Off stuff is just a green powder that they can eat on their eggs and chicken wings for breakfast.

I'm hoping to pick some up at Richmond as i've been told HUB sell it. I've heard great things about it, so worth a try me thinks x

Thanks... I'm a little reluctant to try the plaqueoff one after trying to feed Keeper's mix in the past, the dogs actually refused food mixed with it (unheard of for my Labs!).  Keeper's mix is mainly Kelp-y kind of stuff, so I expect they'd be the same with plaqueoff. Sue, please let me know how you get on with it and which permutation you go for :-)  I guess I'll probably give it a go eventually, I was just hoping to hear from someone with recommendations on how/when to use it and whether the gel/spray combo was worth investing in.
