Hi,

I have a 6 month old puppy who is very picky with food, and I have trouble getting much Complete food (Arden Grange) into him.  He does eat meat/fish and veg most of the time, but volume varies greatly.  I am looking into feeding raw, but in the meantime I want a quality vitamin supplement to ensure he gets all the vitamins and minerals he needs.  He has been getting bonemeal and plenty of fresh bones and carcasses as well.
Also, is feeding 2 x per day ok at this age? That is about all I can get him to eat.

Higher Nature almost Human, Superdog Ultimate Nutrition, developed with Nick Thompson BAHVS etc.

If your dog eats very little you may be better off providing him with a nutritionally denser food so it will have the necessary nutrition. EG Orijen which is grain free and very little is required.

Also with a dog that is picky, feeding TINY meals more often can help.  So spread the meals out as far as you can, which is possible using Orijen for example.

Twice a day feeding is average for a pup of this age. How much less than the recommended intakes (as on the packet) is the dog ACTUALLY having or is your view based on your personal opinion of what it SHOULD be eating?

Remember all dogs have differing appetites and needs...............

Is your dog skinny, lethargic etc?

IMO forget the supplement feed a balanced diet and all should be well. Do think that feeding supplement is the wrong way to go, feed a balanced diet and let the dog/pup eat what it will.

much as I agree with you Nova the op was making the point that she was struggling to get much food into the youngster at all so wanted to make he was at least getting everything he needed in the little amount he is eating.

If the pup is eating nothing at all it should see a vet otherwise let the pup eat what it will, time to worry if it is lethargic, then do not mess about with the food either change it or take the pup to the vet.

As a matter of interest Nick recommends these for all dogs whether they are on a raw diet or commercial! ;)

I use the Ultimate Nutrition ones mentioned and find them to be very easy to use, two of mine don't eat as varied a raw diet as they should as they are fussy so and so's , I use the multi vit to make sure they get what they need, the tablets are easy to crush and not too big, I usually smear some cream cheese or similar on them and they get swallowed no problem.
