Please could anybody give me a bit of advice. Our girl was mated on saturday with a good 20 min tie. She was on day 17. Since then she has been very quiet and a little withdrawn. She perks up for her excercise and is still doing some ball work but in the house she has been quiet and has taken to going and lying in the other room away from us which is puzzling both me and my partner. She is only two and usually bouncy and quite full on. She is still eating as normal and output is normal on both fronts but she just doesnt seem herself. Could anyone tell me is this normal as my last litter was some 10 years ago and age has not been kind to my memory. I have various books and googled but their does not seem to be much information to the days post mating. She is a medium working gundog breed.
Its probably nothing but as our beloved pet dog we do worry. I am not sure to take her to the vets or give her a few days longer to see if she snaps out of it.
And on a seperate note I will never again take a dog on breeding terms. The stress and worry it has caused us far exceeds the benefits we have gained from the arrangement.
This is quite common behaviour with seasons, mated or not.
I agree with you about breeding terms. Too easy to agree to when in the dim and distant future, quite something else when the time comes for it to be done, the risks, work etc, even if the bitch goes back to the breeder for actual maternal duties..
Thank you both for the replies. She is a bit brighter today, though still alot more quiet than normal. Now just have to keep fingers crossed she takes as I cant bear to go through this all again!!
