Topic Dog Boards / Health / Help - Cruciate?

My older bitch (8) has started limping badly on her front Right leg.
When she lies down, she bends her leg at the knee as though it hurts to straighten it. When she gets up, at first she cant put weight on the foot. When she moves around, initially she walks with a terrible limp, eventually the limp goes and she is ok until the next time she sits for a while.

I'll take her to the vets tomorrow - has anybody had this problem ?

Thanks

If it's her front leg then it's not her cruciate. Hope you find out what the problem is.

Thanks - I didn't realise that one. having looked at a diagram, I think it is her wrist.

It could be arthritis setting in, in dobe terms she's edging into senior times :-)

Alternatively, and I'm not trying to scare you - if it's not arthritis, it's sudden onset and there is no cause that you can think of, it's worth getting it x-rayed - dobes are one of the breeds prone to osteosarcoma (mostly in the long bones of the legs) and it often presents that way.

Either way I'd get her checked out, better safe than sorry :-)

Oh dear, I hope this isn't the case. I've just read about it and it sounds horrendous :(

Try not to panic and wait for the diagnosis. My Chow went suddenly lame in his ankle a couple of months back and the xray looked like bone cancer. I did what you did and 'googled' myself into a right panic. However, cell samples were sent to the lab, and xrays sent to a specialist and it turned out to be severe arthritic changes which were weakened by an infection.
Finger crossed that it is nothing serious.

I've made a vets appointment for 3.20 today.

I am worried sick. Didn't sleep a wink.
Yesterday when we went for a walk she was fine when we set off. After having a sleep, whe was limping quite badly. This morning, after a good nights sleep she is OK and playing. Not really much of a limp to speak of. If I stand in front of her and she walks towards me her toes point inwards nd have done for quite a while.

Certainly sounds like it could be Arthritis. My girl of 10 has Arthritis in both her feet and came be lame  she after exercise. I am not an expert but it seems positive that she is mostly lame after walking. I would swing more towards Arthritis, but thankfully have never had Oesteosarcoma

Just back from vets  Its arthritis thank the lord!!
I'd wound myself up into a panic.

I really don't want anymore worries at the moment.
Hubby has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer.
We have a new puppy and the middle dog doesnt like him.

I didn't want anythng else to worry about at the moment.

Thanks for all your input.

So thankful that you have had some good news. So sorry to hear about your husband, try to stay positive.

Thanks Alison for your kind thoughts. I was really panicking about that.
Hubby has a kidney removed next week. The doctors think it is going to be OK
as they are quite sure it hasn't spread.

In that case, good news all round. Hope everything goes okay.
