Can anyone help me find the title of a TV series/one off that was on around 1988...

My husband and I remember watching it in our hotel whilst house hunting in the summer of 1988 and for years have wondered what it was :)  Our memory is a bit fuzzy but here's the gist:  An Australian inherited an English title (Lord I think) and came to the UK.  We think he was a Private Detective and had an attractive girlfriend who worked as a nightclub singer (?), may have been Diamond or Dixie or somesuch D name.

I seem to remember the actor was a blond Aussie who had been in one of their cop shows - or might have search and rescue.  I've Googled all sorts of hints and query strings but can't find it, can any of you help?
