The AHT has launched a new study aiming to eradicate two genetic realted deseases, hip & elbow dysplasia in the Labrador Retriever.

"The purpose of our project is to use new genomic technologies which are now available for dogs to develop an accurate DNA-based test for genetic risk of hip and elbow dysplasia that will:

improve welfare as it will not require dogs to undergo anaesthesia or be exposed to X-rays
allow breeders to test dogs soon after birth
improve breeders' ability to select against these debilitating diseases
result in much quicker progress towards the goal of eradicating hip and elbow dysplasia"
