- By Lexy [gb] Date 02.08.11 08:23 UTC
I have had a email in my spam from Customs & revenue saying I am owed some money & to fill in a form online. I am suspecting this is a hoax but dont want to miss out on a windfall. What do others think?
- By rachelsetters Date 02.08.11 08:31 UTC
ring them or send to that email spam check site - can't remember what it is though?
- By Lily Mc [de] Date 02.08.11 08:36 UTC
Categorically a hoax. Apart from anything else, Government bodies would write to you, not email you.

Be good if I could spam check it, my suspicion is hoax.
- By Lexy [gb] Date 02.08.11 08:38 UTC
Yeah, thats what i suspected..my gut instinct isnt usually wrong

Thanks for those who are just confirming what I i thought :)

Unless you have registered with them yourself for filing returns online they would not send anything to you via email.

I've had loads of these emails in my spam box. i marked them as phising scams but they were still being sent so i then resorted to blocking the sender and each and every time it's a different sender. They are certainly not from HMRC. I never give out my email addy to any financial institution because i'd be daft enough to open a dodgy email and not know the difference and if it really was my bank!
- By Lexy [gb] Date 02.08.11 08:56 UTC
Yes, I have just thought that myself...so it's a hoax methinks :) or should that be :( as I dont get the money...lol

ITS A HOAX
So far I have 'my dearest friend/love one/precious' from about every country in Africa, where by their father or  very sadly mother has well has died in an horrific car crash.Unfortunately they need my bank details to transfer their deceased parents monies as they are 'minors' so can't legally have their own bank account etc.I urgently have a message from a confidential friend who again works in Africa, has found some unclaimed cash in a bank account that hasn't been accessed for many years,If I give him my bank details he will wire me the cash. All these lovely people will let me keep a percentage.
Unfortunately I may need some of this money as I have been caught speeding in New york last February and now have a large fine to pay.Its ok though as I can down load the form on the email and send the cash straight to the fines collection agency.Never been to the Big Apple.

However, before I pay my fine, I must pay the tax on goods I purchased in the USA before they can release them from customs.Thank goodness for computers as I can simply fill out an on line form and send them my bank details.Maybe the goods purchased is from the company in the USA that declares my husband has a very small ummmm you know what and is sending him enlargement pills, viagra etc..I feel a headache coming on.
Nevermind ,with my big win from the Canadian lottery I can soon pay off all my fines.Must be careful with my money though as I have had e mails from
HBSC,Lloyds,Barclays,Halifax,Santander,RBS,telling me I have had unusual activity.Let me tell you the only unusual activiy I have had in recent times involves the goods I apparently purchased above in the USA.
Even Paypal has been subjected to unusal transactions, but the nice guys will sort it out if I send them my account details. As for a tax rebate, yeay I have had one too, just need to send them my bank details and voila - simples.

Brilliant! And don't forget those texts you get about your recent accident where you will receive £3750 compensation.
- By cornishmals [gb] Date 02.08.11 11:12 UTC
Or the emails on your phone that you open stupidly and find you have been charged £4.50 to watch some stupid person making an *ss of themselves!!!

"So far I have 'my dearest friend/love one/precious' from about every country in Africa..........."

This is a hoax as others have said. I keep getting them myself however I've also recently been getting letters from them too, i've never given my email address to them I know that for a fact!!!
- By Cava14Una Date 02.08.11 12:30 UTC
If it seems too good to be true it probably is a hoax
- By flattiemum [gb] Date 02.08.11 13:15 UTC
Definate hoax, I'm a payroll manager and have this query from employees often.
HMRC never contact you (an individual)by e-mail for anything.
It's very convincing though isn't it!!
- By Lexy [gb] Date 02.08.11 13:23 UTC
Yes very & tempting, as I could do with them money they have on it. I have looked on HMRC website & forwarded it to them..they got a list of hoax addresses on there.

Just had a rather sad email that tugs at the heart strings. Now looking for my bank details - NOT.
Again,Dearest One(sweet, she must know me personally)
My name is Biba Lorna Laboso from Nairobi. Now I am filling up.Her Father was killed in a Aircratf accident, whist working as a minister for home affairs and roads.Blah blah, basically the silly man put all his money in a bank account, making the above lady rich by over $4million dollars. He didn't tell her step mother.Shame and now she wants to kill her.So off she ran, through the forest and found a cute little house with 7 little beds, and 7 little men.Or was it a house with cooling porridge that was owned by 3 bears -I digress.
She can't have the money until she is wed or finds a trustee. Now I am a married hetrosexual, so its a trustee I will be.So she wants my bank details and will give me 30% if I dont tell any one else.Opps told you so I guess that means I won't get$1200000 shame.I wanted to buy a huge kennel and take in homless elves, gnomes and fairies :(

Definitely a hoax, just to warn you all there is a new mobile phone hoax going around now, my hubby had it yesterday saying that hubby had a court case against him and needed to phone number X when he said he wouldn't be calling they said you'll regret it if you don't, needless to say he turned off his phone, but I guess it could really worry some people, so if any of you get that one, don't worry just another scammer. :-)
