Hi Amanda,
I use a half check, leather or fabric doesn't seem to make much difference, but I prefer the leather one with a thin lead. That said some people use a check chain and others use a slip lead so I think it is a case of deciding what you are comfortable with and how well behaved your dog is.
hth,
Jeff.
Mine always seem to be better on a thin show check chain, but as Jeff says whatever suits your dog best, there is no set rule.

Thanks for that, ive always shown using a check chain, hes comfortable wearing one even though he has been used to a half check up until last week, hes really good on the lead and does"nt pull ,at only 7 months he is doing really well and a pleasure to have.
Come and say hello at the shows, i'll be the one with a grey and tan nutter TM called Jenna and a newfie.

Hi Amanda,
If Bournemouth is your first show this time around you are missing the worst show for "certain kennels" etc but the entries tell that story :-).
It has been 2/3 years since this judge has judged us but she is a breed specialist. She likes golds to be clear, as per the standard and is not afraid to withhold if she thinks it is warranted. In her last lineup she had grey and tans, black and tans and blacks so I think we will get a fair assessment.

17 is one of the highest this year so far. We do get more as the year goes on as most of the puppies can't compete until July so from NWPB the entries tend to be higher. Earlier in the year we had 10 or so but NWPB (where some pups debuted) was 15 and numbers should generally be around that mark from now on. So, yes 17 is a good entry - sorry for waffling! :-)
I assume you have a puppy? Do you mind if ask where from? We are in puppy bitch at Bournemouth, first show for Wilma the terrible.
