Hi there,

My youngest dog has torn her cruciate ligament and on Monday had the MMP procedure to stabilise the joint...............has anyone here heard of the MMP technique or even experienced it?
Just wondering what i've let myself and dog in for?!

Thanks,

Sorry - no. Mine ruptured hers completely, so had TPLO. Then ruptured the other 5 weeks later, so had another TPLO.

SORRY TO BE SO THICK BUT WHAT DOES THAT STAND FOR?

I have heard of it but opted for the conventional method on my dog.  The specialist said if for any reason he needed to go back he would carry out the MMP op....however my boy had to conventional cruciate repairs and you'd never even know.  I hope your dog recovers well :)

It stands for - MODIFIED MACQUET PROCEDURE!

Hi,

it's an alternative, less invasive op than TPLO, with a quicker recovery time and supposed to be just as effective, very similar to the TTA procedure, but better

It appears these days, that even though the ligament hadn't ruptured completely, they don't opt for arthroscopy anymore as they have realised that the ligament will go completely at some stage and feel it's better to cure with a drastic solution rather than a "make do"

Had TPLO done on another dog 4 1/2 yrs ago

Will update with our progress and outcome :)
