Apparently the 12 month rule only applies to Accredited Breeders so 10 months gap should be OK.

That's not strictly so (unless it is a breed where that has been written in as a requirement), it is those breeders that require a Local Authority breeding License (deemed as commercial) that the LAW says should not allow a bitch to have another litter in under 12 months from last.

Sorry didn't know about commercial breeders.

I presumed the OP was talking about someone who only has the occasional litter and not sure of all the rules.

yes she only has maybe one litter every 7 years but the last litter was brilliant and she decided to do a repeat mating as she has a long waiting list and decided that this would be the last litter for at least another 7 years and then thought she remember something about not being able to breed if the last litter was not 12 months old and being able to register them etc

Regardless of how brillian the litter was, 10 months between litters is not enough imo.

Only certain breeds within the ACB are not allowed to mate their bitch within 12 months.

If this is the second season since the litter then 10 month would maybe be OK, if the next season would be really awkward timing wise, and would mean waiting another 10 months, which might make the bitch too old?.

this is her second season since the litter i have shown her the replies and she said thankyou to everyone

Im no expert, but i got told pedigree dogs can only be mated once a year. I would have thought you would have wanted your girl on top form to become a mum again. Its not fair to the bitch, just wanting to have pups because they were nice pups last time. Its like if you gave birth to a baby, then as soon as the baby is born, you got pregnant again, your hormones is all over the place, and so will be your girl. Please think about your girls health!

Not quite like that :)  For a start canine gestation is only 9 weeks with, generally, only 8 weeks or so lactating.
It should be judged on the breed and the size of litter.  With a modest sized litter many bitches should be perfectly fit to cope perfectly well.
The owner may still be exhausted though :)

Especially as the bitch has had a season in between, some bitches have shorter than 6 month cycles.

This may mean the mother had a season in between, or may be a bitch with long inter season intervals mated on the very next season.  Only the bitch owner will really know.

The first most people would find perfectly acceptable (in your case it's 20 days less than 12 months), but the latter scenario (except in rare cases like a singleton puppy, death of the litter etc), less so, though so nearly 12 months again most people would say 3 weeks wouldn't make a bitch less fit to rear a litter than 3 weeks more.

In the case OP refers to the bitch has had a season between the litter and the current one that the OP's friend wishes to mate her on, but that will result in 10 months between litters so the bitch must be having 4 or 5 month seasons.

This is one reason the KC did away with the 12 month ruling, not to encourage people to mate a bitch too soon after a litter, as in the very next season (though in rare cases this is acceptable), but to allow for the fact bitches are not automatons and do have varying inter season intervals.

yes I know the mother/breeder well and in our case the bitch also had a season inbetween litters :) but I posted without reading the whole thread and was just showing that they could be registered inside the 12 month period.
