Hi All, could any of you pls tell me of your experiences of using Alizin. One of my girls had to have the injection about 10 days ago and i am concerned. She would have been 25 days in whelp when she had the injection, she had 2 jabs of it over 2 days, the vet said to expect a discharge over the next few days and that she might go off her food but other than that there were no other known side effects and it was not possible to get pyo after using this drug (one of my main worries).
Anyway, we are now 10 days on and she is still losing sticky dark discharge, still not eating properly, although happy in herself. I took her back to the vet and he insisted she is fine but i am still worried. The discharge is very sticky and thick and very dark, almost black. She has no temperature or anything to suggest an infection but i feel its not right.
I would be grateful if any others that have experience of this would share what symptons your bitch had.

I used it once, had no problems with anything whatsoever at the time. The sticky dark brown discharge (=old blood) however appeared after the next season, when I had mated her. About 2 weeks after mating. She was fine in herself, had a course of antibiotics to play safe, the discharge was so heavy it was all down her legs staining her (short coat so doesn't often stain with anything) and she had 9 healthy pups.

I'd expect the discharge is the body clearing out the contents of the uterus and if no temperature or infection is a good thing.

I would just keep an eye on it not becoming smelly as with infection (obviously expect old blood/feminine smell, like with a season)

Great, thank you both for your replies. She actually seems a lot brighter today and ate like a horse and the discharge seems to be lighter. Can i just ask , did your girls come in season at the time they were supposed to after having the injections or did it bring them in earlier?

Mine was in season longer than usual the time she had Alizin (33 days -flagging ALL the time so beware of that), the next season came after 7 months which is the norm for this bitch. I was warned it may be a lot earlier but it didn't happen.
