I used to take my Vizsla when I went riding on our point to point horse. It made the horse calmer knowing that he wasn't on his own.... He is not your usual kind of nutty racehorse - very soppy and loves attention and contact.

My daughter took Teasel riding on her horse when Teasel was a baby. Teasel was being carried on the back of the horse while my other daughter walked the other two. They all went for a picnic including a haynet for the horse :-D

We used to have to the horses right next to 300 acres of moorland. I used to tack up and go off riding for a couple of hrs everyday followed by my lot. They loved it.

i guess it very much depends on where you are able to ride but I have to say I have a strict policy of never ever selling a puppy to anyone who tells me they want to take it out with their horse!!! :)

It also depends on the breed - Carriage Dog trials (ie "going out with a horse") are a growing activity within my breed, and very much to be encouraged.

I think it also depends on your dogs, your horse and your ability as a rider. I wouldn't let my daughter ride with the dogs running alongside as it has too much potential for accidents even though her horse is as near bomb proof as is possible with any animal. However if you had a secure area to ride and run the dogs I can imagine it wold be fun although I would want an extra pair of hands to control the dogs.

I have a 12 year old GSD and an 8 year old westie  and they love coming out with my horse  , I just have to say "are you horsing today" and they are out to the car in a flash, and whilst i am getting horse ready my GSD is vocal to get me to hurry up.

Me too. I find it hard to believe that someone on a horse can control a dog on the ground.

my husband controls hector on lead then lets hector off for run but hector will run back to see apollo
