- hmmm - it's all gone very quiet ....the only piece of 'advice' that seems to have come out of this body so far  was to tell breeders  that they were  breeding pets not show dogs ( completely missing the point that show dogs are overwhelmingly pets first and foremost ! ) - has anyone heard anything else ?

Perhaps they should have been more concerned with telling the MAJORITY of breeders that they were breeding pets, NOT STOCK or a CASH CROP?

They seem pretty pointless to me ;)

The majority of breeders only breeding money crop or stock?????

Unfortunately the majority of puppies bred are bred by commercial breeders simply because they breed the most puppies, next come the casual and BYB breeders then those we would call 'Breeders'

After all a commercial breeder registered for 150 breeding bitches would breed more in a year than a committed breed enthusiast in their lifetime in dogs.

The One off pet litter breedr probably does more harm to breed with lack of knowledge too, as there are so many of these.

Yeah but sadly this group so far seems to be another one that is aimed at show people again, or that's how I read it at one point.  Not all show people are making money or have their dogs as stock.  My pups that I occasionally have are pets first and foremost and if they get into somthing else all the better.

Same as my pups Perro :) and those of most responsible breeders.

But Brainless has understood what I meant - MOST of the puppies born are from commercial breeders (ie. a CASH CROP - intended as purely a money maker  ) whether they are small scale BYBs or large scale puppy farmers makes no difference.  The motive behind the breeding is MONEY!

Yes surely breeding purely to make money has to be worse than breeding for show/work?

Yet it is the show fraternity that gets the blame for all the woes appertaining to dogs.

It has been estimated that 83% of all Cavaliers bred are from non breed club members.

Maybe this is a good thing - showing that they are going to consider issues seriously and not come out with spur of the moment comments (like the government is prone to :-) )
