My very sweet ten year old girl Moose is of to see the vet this afternoon.

She has a rather nasty lump on her nose that appeared a couple of weeks ago . We were intending on taking her when it appeared but then I had to go into hospital for an op so her visit was postponed.

I wish we had taken her earlier as it has grown a little bit in those two weeks and has also turned a bit nasty and looks very sore ( if you know me on FB I have just posted a photo of it).

I am going to get them to do a full examination with bloods as she has lost a bit of condition in the last few months ( weight and a bit lethargic ) so want to see if there us anything underlying that maybe causing this.

She is normally a very active healthy girl and has only had ear problems and infections after seasons in her life so worrying that it could be something more serious than just a cyst or a wart.
- By rachelsetters Date 08.07.11 09:40 UTC
Oh it does look a bit sore Lucy :( paws crossed its nothing too serious and that Moose gets the all clear or that its very easily treated and she will be back bouncing around again soon x
- By Merlot [gb] Date 08.07.11 09:43 UTC
Fingers paws and toes crossed for you that it is nothing sinister.

She is booked in on Wednesday to have the lumped removed and will have a full set of bloods done before she has the op.

The vet didnt like the look of it and so opted for removal straight away rather than a biopsy.
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 08.07.11 18:27 UTC
Poor Moose - I hope that Wednesday goes well!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 08.07.11 18:31 UTC
Good luck to Moose - fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.

Sending healing thoughts to you and Moose x
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 08.07.11 21:07 UTC
Sorry to hear this.  Hope all's OK.  Don't blame yourself as you've had a lot to deal with and I for one know how quickly these things can come on.
- By Nova Date 09.07.11 13:14 UTC
Oh dear, sorry to hear this, such a worry. Hope all goes well and the results prove negative.
- By LJS Date 13.07.11 14:51 UTC
Just off to pick her up as she is fine. Bloods were also fine so just the lump to be analysed now :-)

Scrambled eggs for her tea tonight !
- By JeanSW Date 13.07.11 16:22 UTC
So pleased that Moose sailed through this.  And hoping that the results aren't anything serious for her.
- By Goldmali Date 13.07.11 16:34 UTC
Fingers crossed for good results!
- By kayc [gb] Date 13.07.11 16:42 UTC
Glad moose is fine, positive thoughts for good results :-)
- By LJS Date 13.07.11 17:50 UTC
Thanks all. They have given her ears a good clear out, did a dental ( although they said her teeth were in very good shape and have groomed her for me as have been struggling to get the last bits of blown coat out of her being laid up myself. They have only charged for the teeth cleaning and we have a rejuvenated girl!! She is wandering around abit lost at the moment after having her scrambled eggs but I am sure she will settle down after she has a wee :-)
- By Lacy Date 13.07.11 19:24 UTC
So good to get them home. All the best to you and Moose,  fingers & paw crossed for results.
- By LJS Date 19.07.11 08:07 UTC
Still no results through although they thought they would have them back by yesterday.

Moose is not her self at all still . She has and us still being sick ( we discussed at post op check and thought it was the metacam so stopped giving it to her). She then started with watery runny black poo on Sunday and still has it.

I am giving her canikur pro and live yog and a light diet but not solved the problem yet.

I am waiting to hear back from my vet hopefully this morning about the results and to see if he wants her back in with some samples.

The other two girls are fine so not sure if it is a viral type thing.
- By Lea Date 19.07.11 11:48 UTC
oh no. hope the vets have results back and her tummy gets better soon Xx
- By Goldmali Date 19.07.11 12:11 UTC
Have you starved her for 24 hours to give her stomach a rest? It's what I would do with an adult dog that had diarrhoea as bad as that. How long ago did you stop the Metacam? Everything crossed here, I do hope she'll soon be better.
- By LJS Date 19.07.11 12:27 UTC
Yes have starved her. We stopped on Friday morning .
- By Teri Date 19.07.11 13:34 UTC
Hi Lucy, so sorry to read about Moose - and you being unwell too :-(

Black poo whether watery or not is a sign of internal bleed, I'd get her back to the vet asap to determine where it's coming from.  Red blood over stools or flecks of red in watery motions are normally due to straining, when stools or watery motions are black it's generally digested blood which is a more worrying sign.

On the prayers for her kiddo, hugs Teri x

This was where my mind was going. I am waiting to speak to the vet as he  been in ops since lunchtime .
- By Lacy Date 19.07.11 14:31 UTC
Good luck, fingers crossed.
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 19.07.11 20:44 UTC
Any news?
- By Teri Date 19.07.11 21:44 UTC
Update when you can Lucy, thinking of you x
- By kayc [gb] Date 19.07.11 22:07 UTC
just read this Lucy, is there any news yet?
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 05:57 UTC
No . We have just woken up to some more poo :-(

I will be ring at 9 and insisting I speak to the vet this time . If the results haven't come in I will ask him to ring them .
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 20.07.11 06:08 UTC
Oh dear. :-( I hope they can find out what's wrong and sort her out quickly.
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 06:53 UTC
She has just thrown up and brownish clear ( not bile colour) and it smells rancid .
- By rachelsetters Date 20.07.11 07:02 UTC
Hugs to Moose x x has she eaten something she shouldn't?
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 07:04 UTC
No she has been throwing up since last Wednesday then started with the runny poo in doors on Sunday .

She is not a scavenger so I doubt she has eaten anything dodgy.
- By rachelsetters Date 20.07.11 07:27 UTC
what a worry though - hope it gets sorted - just remember Charlie eaten something and throwing up and it stank really awful and there in the middle was a peach stone ! but he was a terrible scavenger!
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 09:35 UTC
Well good news on the lump it was benign and appoitment booked just after 5 so will see what they say about her.

I am still very concerned about her weight is normally at about 30 Kgs but she was down to 26Kgs and that is after increasing her food levels over the last few weeks.
- By Teri Date 20.07.11 09:36 UTC
Hi Lucy,

she may have developed ulcers from the metacalm or some other medication she's been/is on ......  her symptoms could relate more to her treatment rather than the growth.  Does the canikure contain soya?  Some years ago I used either this or a similar product  to help with a GI problem not knowing that the dog had an intollerance to the paste itself and it was making things worse :-(

Please God you get to the bottom of things soon,
hugs & blessings to you both

Teri x

There is veg protein in. She only started having this on Monday and had the symptoms before so not sure if this is the cause more likely the metacam.

She is normally very robust in the tummy department and has rarely had any upsets of wind problems so it is very unusual for anything like this ! Betty on the other hand is known as Guffy girl and is very sensitive and often has upset which is  more like IBS as it is when she is stressed. We went on holiday and she was over excited being in new surroundings and we had a day with her being loose then whilst I was in hospital everytime Mike came back after leaving her there was a nice surprise for him !

Thanks Teri I am sure they will sort it out as I wont stop hassling them until they do ! They know me very well to know if there is something worng rather than just a tummy upset !
- By Merlot [gb] Date 20.07.11 09:49 UTC
Glad the news about the lump is good. I did once have a dog after a GA who was very poorley with vomiting and runny yucky poo. It started over a couple of days and got worse before it got better and we put it down to a late reaction to the GA. Vet made sure she never had that combination again and we never had a repeat of it. Hope poor Moose is feeling better soon.

I know you'll stay on their case Lucy ;-)
Healing thoughts and vibes headed Moose's way - and for you too xxx
- By ally449 [gb] Date 20.07.11 09:52 UTC
glad to hear the lump was benign and fingers crossed they get to the bottom of the stomach problem x
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 15:58 UTC
Just going now and so glad we are going as she now seem to be in a lot of pain and has been walking around all afternoon trying to get comfortable poor girl.
- By kayc [gb] Date 20.07.11 16:02 UTC
Hoping for a good outcome and it's nothing too sinister Lucy... and glad to hear the lump is benign :-)
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 17:32 UTC
We are back and not very good.

She has lost another 1.5 KG in one week. They have taken full bloods again as what they failed to tell me although the bloods were fine her liver tests were at the high of normal so there is something going on. He temp was very high and when he pulled the thermometer out it was covered in the very black poo so he agreed she probably is bleeding internally soemwhere.

She has been given a Ab and Anti Flam injection and we are back in at 9.30 again to look at the results and see what to do next.
- By Lacy Date 20.07.11 17:36 UTC
So sorry for you and Moose, good luck for tomorrow. Best wishes Lacy
- By Rhodach [gb] Date 20.07.11 17:43 UTC
I hope they can find out quickly what the problem is and get it sorted.
- By rachelsetters Date 20.07.11 17:49 UTC
Been thinking of you and Moose and will keep all paws crossed x
- By Stooge Date 20.07.11 18:00 UTC
I hope she is soon sorted and back to her usual self, Lucy.
- By suejaw Date 20.07.11 18:06 UTC
If they think she is bleeding internally why are they leaving it overnight? That is my concern over this unless they don't think its
somehow a major issue??
- By LJS Date 20.07.11 18:17 UTC
Sue if she has a bleed then don't think it is a major bleed. I think they know I am experienced enough to know if there is any change in her that I would get her back in :-)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 20.07.11 18:20 UTC
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow morning, Lucy. Thinking of you xx
