This week my laptop had a new hard disk installed. I see a notice now which says "you are using an outdated version of internet explorer - update now". Should I have to do this as is new disk? Also, how long roughly does it take to update and does it change anything?
I would just like to be armed with SOME facts before I contact the person who carried out the repairs.

The disk is just a bit of hardware and does not have any abilities in it's own right except to store and release the information put on it. If your I E is out of date then just up date it, you will be asked to do this from time to time and there are new versions available.

It is possible that the same pop up would have happened even if you had not had the disk changed.

Thanks Nova. I have only seen the notice on this forum. Is an orange bar with hand facing upwards. Prior to new disk, the notice that came up was for internet explorer 9 but wasn't sure whether to download or not.
Usually ask my daughter but she is away on honeymoon.

Your last post rang a bell: is this thread any help?

You probably just need to turn of the compatability mode. (That meant nothing to me either, but the instructions are in the thread!)
