Topic Other Boards / Foo / Cats' had a stroke

My little ole' lady Polly had a stroke last night, poor old dear couldn't stand or sit upright without falling over, she's making a remarkable recovery though and seems to be getting better by the hour, she can get herself to the litter tray unaided now and is eating on her own. She's to go into the vets on Monday and have her blood pressure taken.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a cat who's had a stroke and how they were after wards, did they have any more strokes or have any long lasting problems ?

I'm sorry to read about your cat :( what a worry.

We look after a customers elderly cat who had a regime of chemo last year for lymphoma and has done very well with that but earlier this year he also suffered a stroke.

His was mainly down his left side so I know he went on a to a dose of steriods and he too, but he has made a good recovery.

He comes to stay now, and eats fine and never misses the litter tray. The only thing he does occassionally, he goes around in an anti-clockwise circle before maybe going to the food bowl. When he comes over to make a fuss, he can walk in a straight direction but as he gets to you, he just does his little circle and then alls well :)

He goes up and down the ladder and sits in the run, which was abit of a concern for me at first, but he manages it just as well as the others.

Touch wood he has had no more since and is not on any meds. He's happy just living his life again, doing what cats do best, sleeping and eating :)

I'm sure your cat will keep improving. They are tough little creatures really :)

Sorry about your cat........I haven't any experience of my animals having a stroke.

I do know that a stroke is brain damage and that can mean anything going wrong :(

Not the same cause but a stroke all the same: One of my main breeding queens, behind pretty much all my cats today, had a stroke when aged just one as a reaction to a worming tablet bought over the counter. She had a slight head tilt for the rest of her life (you'd only know if you really looked), would if stressed get disorientated and stagger a bit, but had several litters of kittens (some of which became Champions) went to a few shows, lived until 12 and had a great life.

Have no experience, but so pleased that your Polly is making such a great recovery.

Big HUGS to her.  :-)

Polly says " thank you" for her hugs and kind thoughts.

Looks quite promising for her then, she seems to be doing really well and managed to trot up the stairs to the bedroom unaided this morning, she's also got her appetite back which saves me a rather painful job, how can a 17 yr old cat have such puppy sharp teeth !.

Glad she seems to be recovering well.

17 is a great age to get to and hope she has a few more years ahead of her :-)
