thanks i have now read these i take on board what has been said and i will give them a try i have used the fern tester and found it hopeless also blood tests with mixed results i might try the strips from the chemists along side to see how they compare
I tried the ovulation pads recently and saw no changes whatsoever!
I've also used the microscope to see the ferning - again with no success. Last year I tried the swabs and again my bitch missed.
I've now decided to just use the progesterone blood test - the only test that has given me a result. May be more expensive but hopefully will be the most accurate.

My reply is exactly the same now as it was on the previous two threads.
Utter rubbish and a waste of money.
If it's really important, get bloods sent of to Idexx.

I also tries Idexx this time and have found it fantastic :) Only tried it to ensure the long journey to the stud dog with a maiden bitch wasn't a waste of time (my own male was telling me she was ready on the tues) but it has proved to be very useful. Took the bloods on the tues and was told she wouldn't be ready til the Fri/Sat. Pups are due next week :)

so exciting :) 3rd litter in a decade in the breed (many other breeds before but no litters) and a singleton in between which is the dam. Sire is top dog in the breed, all health checks done etc etc.... so, so nervous lol
To go back to the OP's enquiry. I used them but as I knew that my bitch only ovulated for a very short period I had to test her several times a day. I think she was getting really fed up with me ;-) If I hadn't done it this way I wouldn't have noticed the very slight change in colour. She was mated, and got pregnant, but reabsorbed the litter at around 7 weeks :-( I have since had her spayed.
