Hi, i wonder if some one can help me! I had my bitch mated 19 days ago, once on the 31st May and they tied for 20 minutes and then again on the 3rd June which they tied for a further 12 minutes. She was loosing a brown discharge (which i said was like after a woman is coming off thier period) and she kept licking herself, today its a yellow/creamy discharge and she still keeps licking herself. She was mated last year and i cant remember having this, i have looked on the internet but all i am getting is dont worry its natural. Can any one tell me what this creamy discharge is please? Thank you in advance.
it can be very normal to see this kind of discharge when in whelp my girls have always had this the only thing you need to watch for is theres no nasty smell to it and the color dont change to a greeny looking color or any blood in it ,im sure its to do with hormone changes but off my head i just cant remember ,all the best with your girl xx

Hey Thank you, thats put my mind at rest a bit now, i just could not remember Honey having this the last time she was mated. I thought she was aborting them or might have had an infection or some thing, but no as far as i can smell there is nothing there to smell. Im very grateful for your reply.
hi honey your not aloud to say on here so you will need to take it off ,admin will remove if you dont! i have a large breed but cant say lol xx

Its normal.Nothing to worry about
Thanks i would have thought if there was some thing to worry about if she was not well, but she is eating, playing, she is also doing all her commands from me and has treats, i would have thought that if she was ill she was not eating, looked sad, and not doing any of her commands. Do you think she could still be pregnant (if she is pregnant) some of her teats are bigger than others, so i dont know what to think at the momennt. Thank you as well for telling me its ok.

if you are at all worried i would still take to the vet... these things aren't easy to diagnose over the internet. Because it seems to be irritating her (keeps cleaning herself) I would get it checked incase it is something more sinister.
Thank you to all of you for trying to answer my questions. I took my bitch to the vets today as i was still not happy, and she has got a infection down below and she is not pregnant. Im glad i took her in the end and glad i got her antibiotics to get sorted, i can mate her any time i just want to make sure she is fine, so thank you to you all.

I would say it's a bit too early to say if she's pregnant or not, if she was mated the once on 31st May, then even if she caught then, she's not quite 3 weeks, she could only be 2.1/2 weeks, I wouldn't give up yet.
Hey thanks, not being funny all i want at the moment is for Honey to get rid of this infection, then think if she is pregnant. Yes i see where your coming from and i dont mean to sound offish where the pups are concerned and i would be over the moon if she was but im not getting any hopes up. So thanks for your message!

I had a bitch that picked up an infection after mating, she was put on a course of Synulox anti-biotics and still went on to have a healthy litter of 7, so fingers crossed.

Ohhhh that sounds good to me, my vet has put Honey on clavucill Tablets 250 x 250mg she has to have one in the morning and one at night, i did not mean to sound harsh about the puppies but i want Honey in Excellent health before having pups and as i was aware she was in good condition. Thank you for telling me that it does give me hope in the future. Thank you
Thank you, there are some lovely people on here giving me some good advice, and to know that yours done the same as well, it makes me feel that im not the only one with what has happened. Yes im glad i went with my feelings too. thank you so much for your message. :) x
May i have some extra advice please? I took Honey to the vets and they scanned her and said she was not pregnant but she was only 20 days gone! She has been put on antibiotics which is called "clavucill" Now she is being sick yellow bile(sorry to be so graphic) she wont eat any food until the afternoon. Is there a possibility Honey is pregnant just with 2 or 3 pups, she had been off her food for about a week before she went on the antibiotics. Her nipples are not small but not large as such. Please can some one help me? i have tried seeing the side effects of the tablets but i cant find any thing on them. Thank you in advance!

Is there a possibility Honey is pregnant just with 2 or 3 pups, she had been off her food for about a week before she went on the antibiotics.20 days is far too early to scan -my vet won't do it sooner than day 30. Being sick with yellow bile and being off their food is typical pregnancy symptoms (often at this stage as well, timing is right) so you could very likely still have a pregnant bitch and large litter.
Awwwbless you thanks, i will still keep an open mind then? wouldnt she have swollen teats by now? I remember when i was pregnant i was being sick bile so i wondered if it was the same for the dogs. Thank you again!

No I wouldn't expect swollen teats yet. :) Last year I had a bitch scanned at just over 30 days, there were no symptoms at ALL with her then and I was sure she wasn't pregnant. The vet said there were more than 8 pups and she had 9!
Ok thanks, i think im getting a bit head of myself, last time Honey was pregnant she sort of had a phantom pregnancy and her teats were huge and had milk in them she later went on to have 6 healthy puppies, so i think i am going on what happened last time.
Wow a lovely number of puppies then. Congratulations having so many. she is now 23 days pregnant if she is or 20 days as she was mated on the 31st May and then again 3rd June. so im not sure which date to go on. This is making me feel that she got pregnant on the seconed mating and not the first does that sound right to you?
One of my bitches brings up yellow bile when shes been mated whether she is pregnant or not. Shes does have minor phantom symptoms when shes been mated and not pregnant.
If your bitch proves to be not pregnant and she has another infection when you try again, I would give her antibiotics as soon as she comes into season and stop when shes mated. Baytril is good and so is Antirobe.
Hi Thank you for your message, i suppose alot of dogs are like humans and they are all individuals, some can be sick when mated some are not, i guess i will just have to wait.Thank you i will keep them tablets in mind, i will put them in her book incase she has it again. I wish there was some vets on here though ;)
A lot of vets know little about the mating and breeding of dogs. They know the medical side when things go wrong and caesars are needed etc but day to day dog breeding I would much rather talk to breeders.
Yes i never thought of that! But how do i know when im talking to a breeder? If i new some then i would feel better talking to them as you say breeders know thier dogs from day of mating to the birth of the puppies. Thank you for brining that to my attention. Any breeders who think they can help me then i would be gratefull. As i have said last year she was mated but you seemed to know she was pregnant. This time i was hit with the discharge of vaginitis, which she never had before.

Must say I was rather concerned that your vet would say that early that she was not pregnent and really hope the antibiotics that he gave been given are news safe for pregnancy as I would think it more likely than not for a mated bitch to be pregnant than not.
With bitches the implantation phase is about 21 - 25 days, and that is when they feel queasy middle trimester where humans have the sickness in the first trimester.

Totally agree with you brainless. I have scanned at over 50 days still to be told no pups, yet she was in whelp with a singleton. You must treat any mated bitch as if she is pregnant just in case.

If she's only 20 days from mating she could be a few days less, depending on when she ovulated, so I wouldn't give up hope just yet, and it was definitely too early to scan, I have my own scanner and wouldn't be able to see anything that early no matter how hard I looked.
Going back to the oringinal question about discharge after mating - I mated one of my girls Thurs & Saturday, she'd had bloods done and was very willing etc and ties on both occasions. Prior to 2nd mating her discharge had almost ceased and was pale/watery looking. Saw nothing Sunday but yesterday and again today she's losing quite a lot of quite dark blood, not particuarly red - more reddy/brown. She's in as much mess as she was at her peak - there is no smell and she is fine in herself. I've not experienced this before - keeping a close eye on her in case of infection...

My girls normally bleed again for a day or two after mating, just keep an eye on her.
Hi, I did try and put a new thread on here but i did not know how to. But another question if possible Honey has put on a KG in weight in a week, she is looking a little bigger but do they put on weight like that if they are pregnant? Im very grateful to all of you who take time out to answer me.
go to the breeding board, look at the top and click on add topic. you'll probably get more response that way!
I know you can't say breed but what size is your bitch normally? (in kg) 1gk would be a lot more significant in a toy breed than a mastiff :) Have you been feeding her extra and how many weeks would she be?
Hi Awww thank you i will give it a go!
She usually runs about 23kg she is now 26kg hope this will be allowed she is a working dog.

I don't feed my girls any extra until the 6th week and would expect any weight gain prior to this to be minimal.
That said I never weigh my girls when pregnant.
'ditto' Brainless's comments. The reason I scan is to have an estimate of how many pups we're likely to be having and increase her food accordingly aorund 6 weeks.
