well, I unfortunately have been very unlucky in the past with cockerspaniels. I chose the wrong breeder and had one puppy which developed FN and the other developed rage syndrome, both at 9 months. They were both put to sleep and it was all very heartbreaking and scary.
That was 3 years ago. We now have a 2 year old small boxer cross, who is delightful, healthy, obedient-the perfect family pet. We would like to have another dog, our boxer cross gets on very well with other dogs. I still love the cockerspaniel, and have heard of a breeder that has mated a sprocker and a working cocker together. The result puppy should appear more like a cockerspaniel in size and features. My vet told me that I should get another mongrel if I want to avoid purchasing an unhealthy dog. She says she sees more problems with the pedigree cocker rather than the sprocker?
I know also of a breeder who does test for PRA and FN on her cockers, and will also have a litter ready soon. Should I just pay the extra and get the cocker with all the health tests, or do you recommend a sprocker? I am going to find out what health tests the sprocker breeder does also. Just being cautious this time, any advise or any sprocker owners with any tips.
Many thanks
